Hey there, Atlanta! Buckle up, because it looks like Mother Nature has decided to throw us a wild weather mix this week. From the potential for fires in the northern and central parts of Georgia to some bone-chilling cold in the southeast, it’s definitely a time to pay attention to the forecast.
On Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) sounded the alarm for a high fire risk in several counties, including Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, and more. With the humidity levels dropping to a nippy 25 percent or below, it’s not looking great! Combine that with northwest winds blowing at 10-15 mph and gusts reaching up to 25 mph, and we’ve got ourselves a recipe for potential fire danger.
The NWS has been busy sending out special weather statements urging everyone in these areas to be mindful of this situation. They advise you to check with your local authorities for burn permits. If you’re planning any outdoor burning, it’s definitely a good idea to stay extra cautious to keep your home and community safe.
And just when we thought things couldn’t get any crazier, the southeastern parts of Georgia are in for an icy treat! Chatham County, watch out—forecasts show that temperatures are set to take a serious dip. Expect lows in the 30s, lasting through Saturday night. Meanwhile, our friends in metro Atlanta should be prepared for chilly nights with temperatures dropping into the 20s on Thursday and Friday.
But that’s just the beginning. Come Saturday night, expect widespread frost to blanket the metro area, with a brisk reminder that winter is indeed still hanging around. However, as we look ahead to Sunday, showers are expected to roll in by nightfall, sticking around and possibly affecting our plans through midweek!
Here’s what the next few days look like for metro Atlanta:
