Vinyl and Wine Harmonize at Commune

Snuggled within the eclectic Olive & Pine in Avondale Estates, Atlanta, lies Commune—a refreshing convergence of vinyl records and fine wine.

This new intimate hub disguises itself as a secrecy-enshrouded speakeasy immersed in nostalgia, akin to a friend’s vinyl-studded basement. Aesthetically, it hosts patterned quilts lining the walls, accompanied by vintage artwork and local designs. The lack of windows combined with preeminent acoustics creates inviting conditions for musophiles to lose themselves in the sonority and indulge in the narratives of sommeliers.

The New Trend in Town

A burgeoning trend of such niche spaces combining melodies and drinks gives Commune company in Atlanta, with similar environments springing up in the city.

A differentiating factor comes into play with the rotating cast of local DJs and touring artists claiming the spot behind the turntables at Commune each week. Gushing with diversity, the musical selection swings from Balearic house music to downtempo hip-hop, tributes to late legend Prince, and much more.

A Canvas for Creatives

In alignment with the grooves and serenades, Commune has marked its territory in the cultural and artistic stratosphere of Atlanta as a teeming confluence for local creatives.

The inspiration for this communal experience hints at the famous Palladium—a past downtown New York club frequented by renowned artists during late ‘70s and ‘80s. Conceived by dynamic duo Zopi Kristjanson and Christopher Devoe with a vision to foster artistic connections, Commune establishes itself as an inspiring gathering spot.

Harmony Between Tunes and Tastes

Wine, at Commune, morphs into an art form as important as the music. On a moody jazz night, for instance, a cool and complex 2021 Nebbiolo d’Alba by Poderi Colla would be a popular choice to match the room’s aura. Its rich palate reveals itself alongside hushed discussions among patrons.

A more lively night with a garage rock mix would call for something adventurous—a wild and unconventional Rosato Frizzante from Matteo Furlani, which enjoys a unique secondary fermentation with the addition of frozen grape must.

James Beard Award-nominated sommelier, Steve Grubbs, sees the task of pairing wines and music more philosophically. Instead of merely playing the audience’s favourite wines, he takes the opportunity to introduce them to exciting new wines every week. Local beers, tea, kombucha, and mocktails by popular non-alcoholic brands, St. Agrestis and Tilden, also share the spotlight.

Gastronomic Delights

No experience is complete without culinary delights, and Commune promises to satiate this craving as well. Its rotating seasonal menu crafted by Chef Autumn Jade, showcases mouthwatering dishes, including mushroom tartine, cantaloupe and salami, snapper crudo, and pecan olive oil cake.

Experience The Commune

Commune welcomes guests Wednesday through Saturday, from 6 p.m. to midnight, offering patrons a rotating DJ lineup, an ever-changing wine list, and a delightful food menu. No reservations are required—simply join the Commune for the love of wine, music, and great company.
