Atlanta is buzzing with creativity, and one name rapidly making waves is the multi-talented and multi-instrumentalist Brandon-Nicole. She’s an artist who effortlessly mixes jazz with an array of other genres like trap, hip hop, funk, and EDM, giving rise to a sound that’s freshly captivating and uniquely her own.
Growing up in a military family, Brandon-Nicole moved around a lot, allowing her to soak in various cultural influences that now vibrate in her music. She started her musical journey early, picking up the piano at just four years old and by fourteen, she was already teaching others how to play. It’s this deep-seated passion for music that drove her to excel at multiple instruments, including the drums, bass, guitar, and saxophone.
Brandon-Nicole describes her relationship with music as more than just an art form. She says, “Music is everything, music is vibration.” Her eclectic style borrows from a roster of legendary artists including John Coltrane, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and many more, creating fusions that are both inspiring and thought-provoking.
Brandon-Nicole’s recent singles, “Beachside” and “Smokin,” have showcased her remarkable talent to a wider audience. “Beachside” is particularly special to her; it pays homage to cherished summer memories at the beach with family. The song’s up-tempo vibe reflects the joy of summer and blends influences that signal her jazz background with the art of contemporary trap.
“When I wrote ‘Beachside,’ I was having the best time at the beach with my family. I could hear the melody in the wind, in the waves,” she reminisces, adding that her journey into music production began when she sought the help of Christopher Starr from CSP Music Group. Her collaboration with Starr has proven fruitful, as “Beachside” quickly climbed the digital charts, staying there for an impressive 32 weeks.
But it’s not all about the music for Brandon-Nicole. She’s also incredibly community-oriented and passionate about education. Currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership, she aims to create pathways for at-risk youth. “They need adults like us,” she explains, emphasizing the importance of mentorship in uplifting young dreams.
She shares a story about one of her students who faced challenges amidst the turmoil of the Black Lives Matter movement. “He felt lost, but we worked together,” she says, demonstrating her dedication to not just teaching music, but being a positive force in her students’ lives. She strives to run the Brandon-Nicole Education Foundation, aiming to provide essential resources for children and the homeless alike.
Brandon-Nicole’s music has become her vehicle for spreading positivity. “I recently wrote a song called ‘Love and Kindness’ because with everything happening in the world, it’s easy to lose sight of those values,” she explains. In an age where negativity often dominates the news cycle, she hopes to inspire change through her art.
As she reflects on her biggest musical inspirations, she nods emphatically to Rihanna, recalling how she watched her rise to stardom. “I’m trying to blow up like that,” she giggles, illustrating her ambition while keeping her authenticity at heart.
Looking ahead, Brandon-Nicole aspires to finish at least one album and hit the touring circuit, bringing her heartfelt performances to audiences beyond Atlanta. “Playing is where my heart is,” she says with sincerity. For budding artists who may struggle with confidence, she shares an encouraging piece of advice: “Do it without confidence. Just show up, even if you feel dumb; that’s how you learn and grow.”
With an ever-growing fanbase and the promise of more music to come, Brandon-Nicole is not only changing the game in Atlanta’s music scene but is also making a significant impact on her community. Her journey serves as a testament to resilience, creativity, and the unwavering power of art to inspire.
