Atlanta’s Venessa Harrison Prepares for Retirement After 45 Years at AT&T, Eyes New Civic Engagement Opportunities

Atlanta’s Trailblazer: Venessa Harrison Reflects on Her AT&T Journey and Future Plans

Atlanta has always been a hub of action, and as we step into the new year, we’re saying goodbye to one of its remarkable leaders, Venessa Harrison. After an impressive 45 years with AT&T, Harrison is preparing for retirement at the end of January, leaving behind a legacy full of impact and inspiration.

A Journey of Hard Work and Dedication

Harrison’s story is nothing short of extraordinary. Originally starting her career as an operator in the company’s lower ranks, she marvelously ascended through the corporate ladder to reach a top executive position. “I’ve had an amazing journey,” she shared in a recent telephone chat. “I went from the lowest-paying job in the company as an operator to a C-suite executive role.” Her rise through the ranks is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

In 2018, Harrison moved to Atlanta, taking on the role of president of AT&T Georgia. Just four years later, she expanded her reach when she was appointed as president of AT&T Southeast Coastal States, overseeing operations in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Talk about stepping up to the challenge!

Ready for the Next Chapter

Even as she prepares for her well-deserved retirement, Harrison remains enthusiastic about what’s next. “I want to explore what else is out there,” she said. Her plans don’t include moving away; she’s committed to staying in Atlanta. With all her civic involvement, including serving on the boards of the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, her wish to give back is evident.

In her role, Harrison has not only guided AT&T’s public policy but has also made significant strides in community engagement. “I want to get more involved in the community,” she expressed genuinely. “I just want to be in a position to give back and support nonprofits by using my skills and expertise in an advisory role.”

Civic Engagement: A Personal Passion

Since arriving in Atlanta, Harrison has embraced her civic responsibilities wholeheartedly. She has served on numerous influential boards, including the Atlanta Committee for Progress and the Georgia Research Alliance. Her commitment to these organizations reflects her desire to not just succeed in her career but also uplift the community.

For individuals interested in the world of telecommunications and corporate leadership, Harrison stands as a shining example of how important it is to have a vision and stay dedicated to that vision. Throughout her career, she has not only been a leader in her industry but also a role model for young professionals aspiring to make their mark in the corporate world.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

As she gears up to step into this new chapter, Harrison’s optimism is contagious. Many in the community are excited about her plans to engage more with local organizations and perhaps bring her wealth of knowledge to strengthen Atlanta’s nonprofits. With Harrison’s strong background and dedication to community service, there’s no doubt she will continue to make a difference.

So here’s to Venessa Harrison—may her retirement be filled with adventure, new experiences, and continued contributions to the vibrant community of Atlanta!
