Urgent Call for Blood Donations as Tropical Storm Helene Approaches Southeastern US

ATLANTA —

Hey folks, it’s time to roll up those sleeves and make a difference! As Tropical Storm Helene makes its way towards the southeastern United States, there’s an urgent call for help that you can answer from the safety and comfort of your local blood donation center.

Our friends at LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are putting out a call to all generous blood donors to donate before the storm hits. Here’s the scoop: Blood supplies are running low and Helene’s stormy wrath could seriously put a damper on essential blood drives across Florida, Georgia, and parts of Alabama this week.

LifeSouth emphasizes that blood donors are needed every single day to ensure that local hospitals have enough blood to help patients in critical need. And let’s face it, the aftermath of the storm, such as flooding, road closures, and power outages, will definitely throw a wrench in blood drive efforts across several states in Helene’s path.

Why Is This Important?

Well, apart from the immediate blood supply issues, the storm is hitting at a time when many patients are already in need. Imagine flooding and traffic jams making it nearly impossible for blood drives to take place. That could spell trouble for those relying on blood transfusions for survival.

Here’s How You Can Help:

To nudge a few more folks into those donation chairs, LifeSouth is offering some cool incentives:

  • $20 e-gift card for blood donors.
  • $40 e-gift card for platelet and double red cell donors.

As a token of appreciation, you’ll also receive a special pin in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and a free wellness screening before you donate.

Where To Donate

If you’re in the metro Atlanta area and want to donate, LifeSouth has several locations ready to welcome you. Look them up, make an appointment, and let’s ensure our community hospitals have the blood they need.
