Calling all theatre enthusiasts! The Academy Theatre is all set to present the eighth instalment of the much-loved Tapas, Atlanta’s favourite short play festival. Scheduled to draw curtains from May 10 and run until May 26, 2024, Tapas promises to showcase a bite-sized mix of Atlanta’s most fascinating artistic expressions.
Framing an eco-friendly narrative, the theme to grace the stage this year is ‘Green’. It’s a venture into the endless avenues where this colour leaves its vibrant traces, and the explored takes viewers on-board to witness this enchanting journey. The festival’s short plays celebrate this vibrant shade and its implications through their rich narratives and enthralling performances.
The sizzling line-up includes plays written by renowned Atlanta playwrights such as Daniel Guyton, Demmarie Boreland, Hank & Barbar Kimmel, Victoria Nation, Keely Herrick, and Paige Steadman. The eclectic mix of narratives ranges from fairytale transformations and professional envy, to a fairy upset about their unworthy rescuer from an absinthe bottle.
Actor Kenneth Nance Jr, ecstatic about his return to the festival, touts the event as always being a “refreshing, fun, and amazing experience filled with great people.” He admits that he’s “super stoked to return”, further escalating the anticipation of both the performers and the audience.
Artistic Director Robert Drake praises this year’s shows and particularly lauds their direction. According to him, young artists are introducing fresh ideas and new ways of doing things, all the while being mentored by more experienced artists rich with years of craft knowledge. His stamp of approval on the festival further makes it a must-watch.
Those who are sixteen years and older can book their spot to witness the creative magic unfold at the Academy Theatre. Tickets are now accessible for purchase online. Come, be a part of this theatrical affair for a wholesome artistic treat.
