ATLANTA, Ga. – Sylvan Hills Middle School to ‘resume normal operations’ after bomb threat, district says
Sylvan Hills Middle School in southwest Atlanta was evacuated Thursday because of a bomb threat.
A bomb threat to a middle school in southwest Atlanta prompted a lockdown and then an evacuation Thursday afternoon, according to Atlanta Public Schools (APS). The school district said a bomb threat was texted to Sylvan Hills Middle School on Thursday afternoon.
“The school went on an interior lockdown, and then out of an abundance of caution students and staff were evacuated and are being relocated to Perkerson Park,” the school district said.
School will be dismissed at Perkerson Park. Buses will take students home, but parents can also pick their children up from the park, the district said. Students will only be released to people who are authorized for pick up, given that they provide a photo ID. APS officials said parents and guardians were notified of both the lockdown and evacuation.
Atlanta Public Schools police and the Atlanta Police Department investigated the threat. According to the district, “the building has been cleared and the school will resume normal operations tomorrow.”
This is the second threat in two days to an Atlanta public school. A threat was made to Benjamin E. Mays High School on Wednesday afternoon, according to APS.
