The right lane of the highway was blocked just before Moreland Avenue, creating a minor traffic snarl as the police conducted their business.

The incident began when Nathaniel Streater, a 29-year-old resident of Stone Mountain, was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt. What initially seemed like a routine stop quickly took a wild twist. Streater, it turns out, wasn’t being completely honest with the authorities. He gave not one, but two different names, claiming he hailed from California, which raised the eyebrows of the officers involved.

As officers conducted their investigation, a *faint scent of marijuana* wafted out from Streater’s vehicle. This prompted a probable cause search that uncovered a stash that could raise anyone’s eyebrows — approximately 96 grams of suspected marijuana, a bag of what appeared to be MDMA pills, and various paraphernalia including a scale and a box of clear bags.

But that wasn’t all. The officers also discovered two open bottles of tequila, a Glock handgun, and a KelTec rifle stashed in the vehicle. Now, that’s not your average traffic stop! With this cocktail of illegal substances and weapons, it was no wonder that Streater was promptly taken into custody and booked into the Fulton County Jail.

Streater now faces a laundry list of charges. He’s looking at three counts related to drugs, two counts for weapons possession, two counts for providing false information to law enforcement, and two counts for driving with an open alcohol container. That’s a hefty set of charges for not buckling up! Such actions certainly caught the attention of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat expressed his appreciation for the swift actions of the Traffic Unit, highlighting their commitment to keeping the community safe.

After spending a little time behind bars, Streater was released after posting bond that Sunday. However, his troubles may just be beginning, especially with the challenging legal journey ahead.

Another Incident Raises Eyebrows

Coincidentally, just a few days prior to Streater’s escapade, another traffic stop on February 7 led to a significant drug bust of its own. Tory Hardesty was pulled over for using his phone while driving, and what was discovered next was nothing short of shocking. During this routine stop, officers found drugs *alongside* a staggering $73,500 in cash on Hardesty’s person.

Hardesty was taken into custody, facing charges for trafficking in meth, cocaine, and marijuana. Also included in his charges were obstruction and using a cellular device while driving. This incident serves as a reminder of just how unpredictable traffic stops can be and the hidden dangers that sometimes come along with them.

As both of these incidents show, law enforcement is on high alert, patrolling the highways not just for traffic infractions but for much bigger concerns.
