Atlanta – This past Labor Day weekend, the Southside at The Lake celebration created quite a buzz, blending fun with remarkable acts of generosity. The inaugural event, which took place at Lake Princeton, offered more than just music, food, and activities for kids. It also delivered a life-changing surprise for hundreds of local children.
Parents who attended the event, orchestrated by Atlanta rapper Yung Joc and several key community figures, left with brand-new Chromebook laptops. This heartwarming giveaway was made possible through the combined efforts of Quality Control Music CEO, Pierre “P” Thomas, and the Ludacris Foundation.
According to Joc, this initiative shattered records, marking the largest single donation of its kind, with a total of 1,000 Chromebooks distributed. For many parents, this was an invaluable gift. “I think it’s a big help because right now… I won’t say struggling, but God is just making ways,” shared parent Latoya Miller.
Joc, a native of Atlanta’s Southside, expressed his pride in the event’s success. “I feel like we’re doing a good thing for the community; we came together to make it happen, and now it’s happening,” he stated. His sentiment was echoed by other prominent figures, including Grammy award-winning producer Jermaine Dupri, who appeared as a special guest.
Dupri urged the youth to make the most of their new laptops. “It’s a million things you could do with that laptop…all you gotta do is stay in the house and put it to work and do what you gotta do,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of using the technology for personal and educational growth.
Adding to the excitement, the event included a surprise land giveaway by the Acre Boyzz, a duo known for their dedication to educating Black Americans about land ownership. “Most people are familiar with stocks, crypto, Forex, different things like that, but most people do not know how to monetize land and that’s why we’re bringing it to the community,” a representative from Acre Boyzz explained.
The Southside at The Lake celebration wasn’t just about giveaways. It was a vibrant day filled with music, delicious food, and engaging activities designed especially for children. The attendees came together, celebrating their sense of community and pride in being part of Atlanta’s Southside.
Looking ahead, Joc and his collaborators are already gearing up for next year, hoping to make the event an annual tradition. As they plan future events, the focus remains on community support and providing resources that can make a genuine difference in people’s lives.
In total, the festive atmosphere, coupled with heartfelt contributions, made this inaugural celebration an unforgettable experience. With a clear emphasis on community upliftment, the Labor Day weekend saw Atlanta’s Southside shining brighter than ever.
