SheNYC Art Reveals Selected Shows For The 2024 SheATL Theater Festival
SheNYC Arts, a premier program in the nation renowned for spotlighting the diverse talents of emerging gender-marginalized writers and composers, recently announced the chosen shows for the highly anticipated 2024 SheATL Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.
Who Made The Cut?
The festival’s selection comprises four unique shows, all creatively penned by women, trans, and non-binary writers. The selection process was rigorous and blind, examining over 450 scripts submitted globally before finalizing the cream of the crop. The festival will introduce four new full-length plays: Peps! Cola Bitch by Dalyla Nicole, Plan B by Emily McClain, Searching for Abuelo by Gretchen Suárez-Peña, and Yanni Stone and the Honeypot Trap by Anterior Leverett.
Scheduled To Mesmerize
The SheATL Theater Festival will commence on August 2, 2024, and conclude on August 9, 2024, hosted by the iconic 7 Stages Theatre. The festival will offer a blend of in-person and select digital performances in keeping with the spirit of hybrid events that have become a new norm since the pandemic.
Working Title Playwrights, Atlanta’s major developmental resource for experienced and emerging playwrights, will extend their expertise to the chosen four playwrights. The creative force behind these select plays will receive dramaturgical mentoring to finesse their scripts and gear up for their Festival run.
What’s To Expect?
SheATL Executive Producer, Kayla Ibarra, expressed her excitement about the chosen selections. “All our playwrights are telling stories that speak to our community, our city, and our collective struggle. Whether that struggle is personal, political, or some combination of both, all these shows speak to the soul of the city and the people in it. We’re here to give Atlanta more of what they love from SheATL while keeping y’all on your toes!”
Tickets will be available for purchase from July 1, with the performance schedule being revealed simultaneously. Select performances will also be filmed and subsequently streamed online for digital audiences to enjoy. Further details about each show can be found at the SheNYC Arts website.
