Second Arrest in Deadly Shooting of Young Woman in Car with Toddler

Atlanta, June 13, 2024 – A second man has been detained in connection with a brutal murder that occurred in this city last month. Cartez Harvey, 19 years old, was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder, alongside additional charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and cruelty to children in the 2nd degree.
Harvey is the second person to be arrested in relation to the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman on May 18; earlier, Jamal Baker, 23, also faced arrest and similar charges on May 31. Baker remains held without bond, and Harvey was lodged into the Fulton County Jail.
The Shooting Incident
A shocking shooting incident occurred at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Center Street NW. On arrival at the scene around 2 am, officers found a young woman in the passenger seat of a vehicle, dead from gunshot wounds. In the backseat was a toddler, thankfully unharmed.
Atlanta Police have surmised that Harvey, Baker, and an unidentified third man had a crucial connection to the shooting. After the incident, three individuals were seen on foot in the vicinity and are considered to be the prime suspects.

Despite the arrests, the investigation still continues into this shocking crime, with the third person of interest still yet to be identified and apprehended. The deadly incident not only claimed a young woman’s life but also left a toddler without a caregiver.
Mother and Toddler – Tragic Crime Scene
The scene that unfolded on Center Street was a tragedy. The young woman was found with fatal gunshot wounds in a vehicle on Hollywood Road. The police believe that the shots were fired at the Center Street location, and possibly the car had been moved to Hollywood Road post the incident. The toddler in the backseat miraculously escaped physical harm.
