Key Hires Signal Major Progress for The Nuclear Company in Washington

In the bustling city of Washington, excitement is brewing in the energy sector as The Nuclear Company makes significant strides towards revolutionizing nuclear power in America. Today, the company proudly announced two highly experienced hires, Kevin Stafford and Glen Chick, who bring an impressive 65 years of combined experience in large-scale nuclear projects to their team. This marks an important move as The Nuclear Company gears up to deploy a staggering 6 gigawatts of fleet-scale nuclear power across the nation.

Building Partnerships for the Future

The Nuclear Company is adopting a unique approach that unites a consortium of utilities, independent power producers, hyperscalers, and other stakeholders. This collaborative model allows different players in the industry to share the responsibility of constructing essential infrastructure. Chief Nuclear Officer Joe Klecha emphasized the importance of their new hires, stating, “Kevin and Glen both held key roles in the construction of Vogtle units 3 and 4, which were the first new nuclear reactors built in America in over 30 years.” Their experience is vital to helping The Nuclear Company regain America’s position as a leader in nuclear power technology.

The Powerhouse Behind the Projects

Stepping into the role of vice president of construction, Kevin Stafford arrives with an impressive track record, having spent more than two decades shaping the industry. Previously, he served as the site manager for the Vogtle units 3 and 4 project, where he was instrumental in overseeing over 2,000 workers. His remarkable efforts focused on prioritizing safety, maintaining quality control, and ensuring that projects wrapped up efficiently.

Stafford’s experience isn’t just limited to Vogtle; he held various roles at Bechtel and Westinghouse, including construction engineering manager, mechanical construction engineer, and even process improvement engineer. His extensive background means he comes with a wealth of knowledge that will guide The Nuclear Company’s on-the-ground efforts.

Years of Insight and Leadership

Joining as an executive advisor, Glen Chick adds another layer of depth to the team with his extensive 45 years of experience in nuclear plant construction and operations. His previous role as executive vice president at Southern Nuclear saw him successfully completing the construction of the Vogtle units as well, further solidifying the connection between their experiences.

Chick’s impressive resume includes key positions at Exelon, where he oversaw operational performance targets and regulatory compliance across the organization’s nuclear fleet. His career began as a certified pipe welder, showcasing the humble beginnings that led him to significant leadership roles in so many successful projects.

Rising to the Challenge of Energy Demand

The Nuclear Company emerged from stealth mode earlier this year, driven by a mission to meet the increasing energy demand resulting from factors like AI computing and onshoring manufacturing. According to the International Energy Agency, global electricity demand is expected to rise by nearly 30 percent by 2030, which is equivalent to the combined energy needs of the United States and the European Union.

Even though the benefits of nuclear energy as a zero-carbon power source are clear, the industry faces significant challenges, particularly regarding budget overruns and delays in one-off nuclear projects. The Nuclear Company is addressing these issues by implementing a model that utilizes proven technology, taking a design-once, build-many approach. This streamlined strategy aims to minimize costs while effectively managing risks, making nuclear power investments more attractive.

A Bright Future Ahead

The addition of Stafford and Chick is just the beginning. The Nuclear Company is also bolstering its construction and engineering teams with other recent hires to ensure they can tackle the ambitious goals set before them. With a strong focus on delivering safe and reliable electricity at the lowest costs, they appear poised to make significant advancements in the nuclear sector.

For anyone interested in the future of energy in America, it’s certainly an exciting time as The Nuclear Company sets into motion a plan that could reshape the landscape of nuclear power for generations to come.
