Warm Temperatures Approaching North Georgia

News Summary

Atlanta is gearing up for above-average temperatures next week with highs nearing 70 degrees. However, winter isn’t done just yet, so expect some chill and light snow in parts of North Georgia. NASCAR fans can anticipate dry weather at the Ambetter Health 400, but cold temperatures will return later in the week. Warming centers are available for those in need during the cold spell. Stay warm and enjoy the weather rollercoaster ahead!

Warm Temperatures Just Around the Corner for North Georgia

Hey there, Atlanta! Grab your sunglasses because above-average temperatures are on the horizon next week – think highs close to 70 degrees by Tuesday and Wednesday! Now, while it seems like spring is peeking in early, we shouldn’t forget that old man winter hasn’t completely packed his bags yet.

Winter Weather Still Lingers

Our local meteorologist, Brian Monahan, has pointed out an interesting fact: the cold air hasn’t entirely vanished, and in fact, Atlanta usually sees its last teens (you know, those chilly temperatures) by January 30. Just as a reminder of how unpredictable things can get, the latest recorded teens in Atlanta happened way back on March 17, 1955. So, it’s safe to say we’re in for a bit of a ride weather-wise!

NASCAR’s Weekend Forecast

For all the NASCAR fans out there, here’s some good news! This weekend for the Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, you can look forward to dry conditions. After last weekend’s wild weather during the Daytona 500, this is a nice change of pace. On Saturday, expect temperatures to kick off in the upper 20s but warm up to a comfortable high of 53°F. Sunday during the race will be in the 50s – perfect for enjoying the action!

Snow Surprise in North Georgia

Now, as we wind down this week, some parts of north Georgia are experiencing snow. We’re looking at about a half-inch accumulation, but luckily, no major issues are anticipated. A Winter Weather Advisory is currently active in several counties including Bartow, Cherokee, Haralson, and Paulding due to some light snow possibilities.

Snow showers are forecasted for early Wednesday morning, and if you’re up early enough, you might catch a sprinkle before sunrise. However, don’t expect much – regions above 2,500 feet might see nearly an inch of snow, while areas below that are likely to get just about half an inch. So, do keep an eye on those roads, especially in northwest Georgia where conditions were reported to feel a bit slick in spots like Blairsville and Blue Ridge.

The Cold Returns

But hold onto your hats, because cold weather is making a comeback! You might want to bundle up as wind chill values are expected to drop into the single digits above zero to lower teens on Thursday and Friday mornings. Yikes! With Thursday’s high temperatures only predicted to be in the 30s across north Georgia, and mountain areas lingering in the 20s, we’ll definitely feel that bite.

Weather Impact

The mix of rain and snow will possibly affect morning commutes on Wednesday. Atlanta is projected to have a high near 44°F, but don’t forget to keep that umbrella handy given the significant chance of precipitation in the area. Meanwhile, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Cobb County and other regions until 10 a.m. on Friday due to dangerously low wind chill factors.

Warm and Cozy Options

For those who need a warm place to stay, several warming centers have been opened and are operating 24/7 from February 18 through February 23. They’re there to help people find shelter from these chilly temperatures until it warms up!

Looking Ahead

As we venture into the upcoming week, the general outlook shows much drier conditions returning, with temperatures climbing back to the mid and upper 60s as early as next week. Looks like we’re in for a bit of a rollercoaster ride in terms of weather, so keep an eye on the forecast and stay cozy, Atlanta!
