Music Midtown Takes Pause; Will Be on Hiatus in 2024

Unprecedented Times: An Atlanta-based Music Festival on Hold

Music Midtown, an iconic music festival that has enlivened Atlanta with its rhythmic pulse for three decades, recently announced it will be “on hiatus” in 2024—an announcement posted Wednesday on its social media platforms.

In a heartfelt message, festival organizers shared: “After producing legendary festivals over the past three decades that drew music fans from across the globe, we want to share that Music Midtown is going on hiatus this year.” The post, remaining optimistic, closed with an encouragement for fans to continue supporting live music in the city.

An Expected Interruption

Long-established Atlanta music promoter, Mara Davis, described the news as unsurprising. “While Music Midtown had many, many iconic years, I think that this is partly just a sign of the times,” said Davis. The signs she refers to likely speak to the shifting landscapes of live performances in a post-pandemic world.

At this stage, although it has caused some disappointment among fans, Music Midtown has not indicated whether the hiatus is permanent or when the festival will eventually make its comeback.

Music in Atlanta Remains Alive and Kickin’

Despite this recent announcement, a slew of other music events continue to invigorate Atlanta’s landscape. The WigWag free Art and Music Festival recently returned to Avondale Estates, showcasing a vibrant array of artistic talent and musical performances. Furthermore, Atlanta is a strong contender to host the internationally acclaimed Sundance Festival in 2027, a prospect further bolstering its reputation as a critical hub for various forms of artistic expression.

The city also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable band at the Inman Park Parade, an event that struck a chord with fans across the region, serving as a reminder of music’s enduring vitality in the heart of Georgia.

Time for a Brief Pause

In an ever-changing world, Music Midtown’s hiatus reflects the rapid shifts experienced in the entertainment industry. While it may seem like a setback, fans can take comfort knowing that Atlanta’s pulse remains strong with a vast array of other music and art events. As we reckon with new normalities and shifting landscapes, music remains a constant, as does its power to inspire, unite, and invigorate communities. Therefore, fans worldwide eagerly await the return of the iconic Music Midtown, whenever that may be.
