AK-47 among Valuable Items Stolen from Midtown Construction Workers
Atlanta’s Hard-Working Personnel Become Theft Targets
In the bustling city of Atlanta, car burglars have recently targeted a group of construction workers in West Midtown. Not only were the workers’ personal tools stolen, but even an AK-47 owned by one of the workers. Witnesses have reported an anxious scene in the early hours of the day, leaving workers feeling violated and unsafe.
Workplace Unrest as Crimes Escalate
Under the watch of the dawning sun, a group of five people allegedly shattered car windows at the well-used workers’ parking deck off Northside Drive and Ethel Street and made off in a blue BMW.
“I get down here, my window is busted, my carpenter’s window is busted and eight more windows got busted out in this level of the parking deck,” reported Construction Superintendent James Cox.
Besides an AK-47 rifle, other firearms were also reported stolen from various crewmembers. “Next thing you know, my window is on the ground. My whole window. They got my AK, they got my 9, they got my suppressor, all that,” a victim, who wished to remain anonymous, fumed.
An Alarming Number of Thefts at the Work Site
According to Cox, all the stolen objects held substantial value, whether they were handguns, tools, or other compact, high-dollar items. This problematic event represents the third incident at this location within the past five months.
Due to site work regulations, workers are often not allowed to bring firearms into the job site, forcing them to leave their valuables unattended in their vehicles. “A lot of commercial job sites will not allow you to have the pistol with you, so make sure you contact the places before to make sure you can have a gun. If you can’t, don’t bring it because that’s what these guys are looking for,” Cox advised his fellow workers.
The task for the Atlanta Police Department – to find these criminals – remains. Investigations are ongoing, with the victims and workers hoping for small relief in capturing and prosecuting the culprits behind these escalating crimes.
The recent thefts have troubled the construction industry in an unsettling ripple, causing concerns of safety practises and the law-abiding ethics of storing such dangerous firearms in personal vehicles. The incident presents a pressing demand for more stringent regulations and surveillance measures to safeguard the valuable possessions and tools of hardworking professionals.
