In the bustling heart of the vibrant Midtown Atlanta scene, a popular pub has resumed its operations following a catastrophic water main break. The Eleventh Street Pub, a staple in the community, was severely hit almost two months ago when the water crisis struck, causing a significant loss for the business.
During the incident, the pub suffered a direct hit, with an estimated 100,000 gallons of water and more raining down within the establishment. The scale of damage was alarming, “It was like a deluge, absolutely massive,” described owner Mike Taylor. The water invasion didn’t just flood the bar area. It got into the basement kitchen, causing decay in the walls, floors, and the overall interior structure. It was a spectacle that left many locals heartbroken, as they watched their favorite watering hole being turned inside out.
Despite the severe damage to the property, the pub never lost its spirit. After 55 days of intensive restoration, the pub stood up again, all spruced up with new walls, floors, and a renewed sense of enthusiasm. The joy of reopening was evident in Mike Taylor’s words, “We are very, very happy to be reopened. Our staff is very happy, and it is starting to feel like everything is getting back to normal”.
However, the journey wasn’t exactly a smooth ride. Navigating through the layers of chaos, dealing with insurance, drying out the water, and ensuring that there was no onset of mold was a herculean task. “It just took an awful long time to have the water mitigation, and get all of the moisture out, and make sure there was no mold”, Taylor added.
With his perseverance and dedication, Taylor managed to bring back most of his 16 strong staff. Not surprisingly, his next big hope is that the loyal customers of the pub would return too. After all, who can resist the tempting and highly raved 10-wing special, now at an unbeatable price?
The reopening of the Eleventh Street Pub signifies not just the revival of a local business, but also the indefatigable spirit of the community. The doors are now open to welcome back the denizens of Midtown Atlanta and beyond, to create new memories and raise a toast to resilience and unity.
The reopening of this beloved pub is a beacon of hope and resilience, especially after the challenges of COVID-19 shut down in 2020 and the water main break. As the Eleventh Street Pub welcomes back guests into its rejuvenated space, it serves as a testament to how tough times often bring out the best in us all.
