Fulton 19 update: Lawmaker wants case tossed, Yeezy’s ex-publicist changes counsel

June 3, 2024, Fulton County, Georgia

The unfolding plot in the Fulton County 2020 presidential election interference case continues as court hearings were held for several co-defendants previously associated with former President Donald Trump. The accused individuals have been charged with allegedly conspiring to overturn Trump’s loss in Georgia’s 2020 elections.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee presided over these hearings, which involved a state lawmaker, a former publicist for the artist Kanye West, and the ex-Director of Black Voices for Trump. The charges against these individuals included forgery, making false statements, and influencing witnesses. The defendants have all pleaded not guilty to these charges.

Case Against State Senator Still

State Sen. Shawn Still, a Republican from Norcross, Georgia, has argued that several charges against him should be dropped due to flaws in the indictment. Still has been charged with multiple counts, including forgery and making false statements that are connected to a meeting held on December 14, 2020. At this meeting, Still served as a Republican alternative elector and voted to declare Trump the winner in Georgia’s presidential contest, contradicting the legally certified results declaring Joe Biden the winner.

State prosecutors argue that Still was one of 16 Republican alternative electors who illegally impersonated a public officer as part of an attempt to undermine the certified results. Still, however, rebuts these charges, arguing that his role as “public officer” is ambiguous and therefore the charges of forgery are unfounded.

Former Black Voices for Trump Head Seeks Ballot Recount

The former head of Black Voices for Trump, Harrison Floyd, has expressed interest in recounting the ballots for the 2020 election. Floyd is accused of intimidating Fulton County poll workers who were targeted by former President Trump’s supporters who falsely claimed they conspired to overturn Biden’s win in Georgia.

Judge McAfee has granted Floyd’s attorney more time to streamline their subpoena request to inspect election records. Floyd asserts that he was wrongfully charged in this racketeering case claiming his questions about the legitimacy of the election results were valid and remain unresolved. Floyd, who is based out of Maryland, seeks access to over 500,000 Fulton County voter ballots from the 2020 election in order to substantiate his claims.

Publicist Kutti Hires New Counsel

The former publicist for Kanye West, known as Kutti, has hired a new counsel to represent her in this case. She informed Judge McAfee of her unawareness of the recent court proceedings until she received notifications on social media. Kutti has announced her new lawyer, Albany attorney George Donaldson. He will be the fourth lawyer defending Kutti in this case, following the withdrawal of the previous three attorneys in December.

These recent updates are part of the ongoing Fulton 19 case, which continues to unfold in the legal and political landscape of the state and the country.
