She’s Back: Vice President Kamala Harris set to return to Atlanta on Tuesday
In the strategic move of the upcoming presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to return to Atlanta on Tuesday, marking her sixth visit to the area this year.
East Point Joins the Presidential Journey
Just days prior to Harris’s scheduled visit, the city of East Point officially hopped aboard her presidential bandwagon. The most recent Harris for President campaign office opened its doors to overwhelming support from a host of democratic supporters, including Congresswoman Nikema Williams from Georgia and East Point Mayor, Deanna Holiday Ingraham.
In the history of US presidency, only four sitting vice presidents have been elected as the president: John Adams in 1796, Thomas Jefferson in 1800, Martin Van Buren in 1836, and George H. W. Bush in 1988. If elected, Harris would not only join this elite group but also create history on various fronts.
Importance of East Point’s Majority Black Population
Despite not being among the largest cities in metro Atlanta, East Point boasts a majority Black population and rigid democratic voter block. By securing support from the voters of this city, Harris fortifies her chances at capturing Georgia’s potentially election-altering 16 electoral votes.
“We cannot take this momentum for granted,” said Mayor Ingraham, emphasizing the importance of forging strong local relationships with voters. Robert Dawson, a Georgia state representative candidate, showed his unrelenting support by adding, “We’re here today to make it quite clear that Georgia is backing Vice President Harris.”
Addressing the Immigrant Voters
Ahead of Harris’s visit, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal from Washington attended the Voters of Tomorrow Summit in downtown Atlanta. An immigrant herself, Jayapal addressed the immigrant voter block about the Trump/Vance campaign’s remarks on the border and immigration.
She stated, “I am a proud immigrant, I came to the United States at the age of 16 years old. Today, I feel like I am here to pay it forward,” adding that “it’s up to us to make sure voters know who Kamala Harris is and what she has done.”
Harris’ Virtual Address
