Juneteenth Parade 2024 in Atlanta
ATLANTA – An annual celebration of freedom and resilience took place in downtown Atlanta on June 22, where the streets were filled with joy and reverence for the 12th annual Juneteenth Parade. A diverse assembly of participants marched from Jackson Street to Piedmont Park, where the festivities continue.
Parade’s Grand Marshals
Hundreds of individuals, organizations and participants enacted the parade, with FOX 5 Atlanta’s Aungelique Proctor as one of the grand marshals. Proctor expressed her honor to be part of the age-long tradition, representing her ancestor, the first principal of Booker T. Washington High School, Charles Lincoln Harper. “It’s really an honor to be in the parade today,” she stated.
Vibrant and Festive Paradegoers
The city was alive and vibrant, with a variety of attractions including marching bands, dancers, and decorated cars gracing the parade. Crowds watched on with awe and admiration as the spirit of the historic holiday spread throughout the city. A participant at the celebration, Nature Darnes, remarked on the parade’s relocation from Centennial Park to Piedmont, expressing excitement at being part of the festive event.
Piedmont Park Juneteenth festival
A continuation of the Juneteenth festival held at Piedmont Park through Sunday evidenced the deep commitment dedication and love of Atlanta residents for the celebration of this historic day. A multitude of activities planned to keep the zeal of the day alive in the hearts of the participants, from folklore storytelling to performances by local artists, food stalls, and pop-up shops featuring local artisans and craftsmakers.
