ATLANTA – The Spirit of Giving Shines Bright with Clark’s Christmas Kids
The holiday season is upon us once again, and with it comes the heartwarming efforts of Clark’s Christmas Kids, making sure every foster child in Georgia wakes up to a festive surprise. A bustling affair unfolded this Sunday morning as families gathered at the Walmart on Mansell Road, arms full and spirits high, ready to spread some holiday cheer by donating gifts.
The Vonholt family, marked this year as their joyous first, joining the cause with excitement and generosity. “So, for my kid I got action figures, I got a helmet, and I got a scooter,” shared Kayla Vonholt with a bright smile. Her partner, Blake, chimed in, “I got him hot wheel cars and I also got him a remote control car.” Their enthusiasm was palpable, adding to the ambiance of the event.
Among familiar faces was the Jarrett family, steadfast supporters and now in their third year of participation. “It’s important for us to show our boys though that we’re fortunate so when you’re fortunate you should want to share that with other people,” expressed Valeria Jarrett with kindness. Her son added, “Everyone should have that feeling on Christmas morning to wake up to gifts and stuff.” A touching reminder of the joy that giving brings, not only to the recipients but to the givers, too.
The Legacy of Clark’s Christmas Kids
Originally sparked 34 years ago, the mission of Clark’s Christmas Kids is a beacon of hope during the holiday season, dedicated to reaching children in foster care who otherwise might not receive gifts. This year, upholding the tradition, it aims to provide gifts for about 7,700 of the 11,000 foster kids residing in Georgia. “There’s 11,000 foster kids in the state of Georgia and we will provide gifts for about 7700 this year out of our facility alone,” proudly stated Denise Fisher, the President of St. Vincent de Paul.
The scale of this endeavor is made possible not just by generous donations, but also by the tireless efforts of volunteers. Their dedication ensures these gifts make it into the hands of eager children across the state. “I’m in awe of all of the volunteers who come every year,” Clark Howard noted, reflecting on the extensive collaborative efforts.
Your Chance to Make a Difference
The festive spirit continues, and so does the opportunity for those who wish to contribute. Whether you’re looking to play Santa yourself or simply want to lend a hand, donations are more than welcome, either online or in person. Upcoming events invite everyone to join in on the merriment, with the next one scheduled for Saturday in Duluth from 9am to noon, followed by another on Sunday at the Cobb Parkway location near the Big Chicken in Marietta from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Beyond the sparkle of tinsel and the twinkle of lights, the essence of this holiday season is underscored by actions of generosity and community spirit, made tangible by Clark’s Christmas Kids. This cherished tradition reminds us all of the beauty that comes from giving, lighting up homes and hearts across Georgia, one gift at a time.
