Food Fight Fun: Atlanta Kicks Off 42nd Annual Holiday Can-A-Thon with School Competitions

Food Fight Fun: Atlanta’s 42nd Annual Holiday Can-A-Thon Kicks Off with Exciting School Competitions!

ATLANTA — The holiday season is not just about cherishing good times with friends and family; it’s also about lending a helping hand to those in need. And what better way to celebrate the spirit of giving than the annual Holiday Can-A-Thon, a community-driven initiative aimed at restocking the shelves of food pantries across Metro Atlanta.

This noteworthy event marks its 42nd year, co-hosted by a beloved local charity and a renowned media partner. Over these past four decades, the Can-A-Thon has consistently brought people together to gather canned goods and non-perishable items, providing much-needed support to vulnerable families during the holiday season.

New Exciting Competitions to Spice Things Up!

This year introduces a fresh twist with THREE exciting competitions just for schools to participate in! Here’s the full scoop:

  • MOST CANS COLLECTED: It’s a numbers game! Schools bust out their calculators and compete to see who can collect the most canned food items. The winner will score an epic celebration at their school, complete with goodies from a popular supermarket, a memorable visit from everyone’s favorite philanthropist symbol, Captain Kettle, and a special TV feature. How cool is that?
  • MOST CREATIVE CANSTRUCTION: This is all about creativity! Schools are encouraged to construct the wildest, most inventive display possible using their collected cans. Those who manage to wow the judges with their canstructions could win a unique behind-the-scenes tour of a TV studio for an entire class of up to 25 students. Lights, camera, canstruction!
  • MOST HEARTFELT “WHY I GIVE” MESSAGE: A warm hug for the heart! This competition invites students to express why they feel it’s important to donate through writing or art. The touching entries will not only be featured on various platforms but also be appreciated with a special gift for select students. A beautiful way to give voice to the young givers!

Ready to chime in the holiday cheer and contribute to this lively cause? Schools can dive into the contest by registering and preparing to collect a variety of canned goods and non-perishable food items. No glass, please! The big collection day is set for Friday, December 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations can be dropped off at specified locations across metro Atlanta.

Want to Join the Fun?

Thinking of joining as a volunteer or signing up your school, business, or organization? This event offers a fantastic chance to make a difference and have a lot of fun while at it. To register or gather more details, a simple click is all it takes!
