ATLANTA, GA: The Atlanta Hawks and tech giant Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) announced a fresh partnership today, aimed towards amplifying both the organizations’ commitment to community growth and the improvement of education through innovative technology.
The Hawks Basketball Academy is scheduled to host two Lady Ballers events; the first on Saturday, March 16th and the second on April 13th. These events invite young female athletes to participate in basketball training sessions and can sign up by visiting the Hawks Basketball Academy online. This initiative serves as a cornerstone in the partnership between Google and the Atlanta Hawks, demonstrating a mutual business goal – emphasize community engagement and thereby positively mold Atlanta’s future generation.
Google Cloud will be presenting the Lady Ballers Program in partnership with the Hawks. A program designed to embolden and enhance youth basketball involvement and, at the same time, ameliorate the overall youth basketball experience for females aged six to eighteen. This initiative also includes two clinics scheduled throughout the season, along with a four-day Jr. Hawks Summer Camp weekend, where young girls will focus on cultivating pivotal life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence. Additionally, the partners plan to incorporate STEM activities within the one-week Lady Ballers basketball camp taking place this summer at Northside Youth Organization.
Speaking on the joint venture, Felica Coney, Google Cloud’s Vice President of Server Operations, commented, “Educating the next generation of tech innovators is critical to America’s future, and we’re excited to play a role in Atlanta’s community. This investment with the Atlanta Hawks is a tangible investment that will provide local students access to the tools and training that can help them gain a competitive advantage for future jobs and to thrive in their chosen careers”.
Google has stayed as a significant part of Atlanta for over two decades. Doubling down on their commitment, Google currently employs over 1,000 full-time employees in Georgia across two Atlanta offices and a data center in Douglas County. These professionals focus on building Google’s products and helping their partners and customers spread across the south and nationally. In 2021 alone, Google’s products have assisted in $13.21 billion worth economic activity involving thousands of Georgia businesses, nonprofits, publishers, creators, and developers.
The Lady Ballers program and the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Academy presented by Google, attempts to significantly contribute to Atlanta’s community and lay the groundwork for the younger generation’s future. The partnership aims not only for athletics and team-building but also fosters an environment that intertwines sports and technology education playing a pivotal role towards sustainable community outreach. More information on these initiatives can be found on the Academy’s website.
