It was an exciting weekend for golf fans as the Georgia State Men’s Golf team participated in the annual Furman Intercollegiate, hosted at the scenic Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, South Carolina. The Panthers played fiercely over three rounds, finishing in 11th place with a total score of 878 (+26).
The tournament was a rollercoaster of ups and downs for the team. In the first round, the Panthers scored 298 (+14), followed by a slightly better performance in the second round with a score of 296 (+12). The real highlight came in the final round when the team displayed a stunning turnaround, posting an impressive score of 284 (even par). This final performance certainly brought positive vibes heading into the next challenges of the spring season.
Leading the pack for Georgia State was Connor MacMillan, who shone brightly despite the team’s overall placement. He tied for 28th with a score of 215 (+2). His journey through the tournament included rounds of 72 (+1), 75 (+4), capped off with an absolutely stellar final round of 69 (-3). Talk about ending on a high note!
Right behind him was Cameron Jackson, finishing in a tie for 33rd with a total of 216 (+3). Cameron navigated the course with rounds of 72 (+1), 74 (+3), and a commendable 70 (-1) in his final round. His steady play certainly contributed to the team’s positive vibes on the last day.
Another notable performance came from Jordan Jung, who tied for 37th with a total score of 217 (+4). Jordan tackled the course with rounds of 74 (+3), 74 (+3), and a fantastic closing round of 69 (-2). His consistent gameplay truly highlighted the potential within the team.
However, not all rounds were as smooth for every athlete. Brody Tidwell struggled a bit throughout the tournament and ended up tying for 79th place with a total of 230 (+17), which included a final round of 77 (+6). Daniel Medellin finished in 87th place with a score of 239 (+26), wrapping up the tournament with rounds of 84 (+13), 78 (+7), and a closing 77 (+6).
While the Panthers fought hard, the competition was intense. The team title was snatched up by Texas A&M, who finished significantly ahead with a remarkable score of 829 (-23). Individually, Scotty KennonWake Forest made waves with an impressive score of -11, taking home the individual honors.
Despite the challenges faced during the tournament, the Georgia State Men’s Golf team can take pride in their final day performance and use it as a springboard as they head into their upcoming competitions. With the Spring Season set to kick off on February 1 with the Thomas Sharkey Individual, there’s plenty of excitement brewing for the team. Fans and supporters can’t wait to see how they’ll improve and grow as they take to the greens once more!
