Graduates from the Georgia School of Orthodontics gather to celebrate their achievements during the graduation ceremony.
The Georgia School of Orthodontics (GSO) in Atlanta has celebrated its largest graduating class since its establishment in 2016, with 40 residents completing the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics. The graduation ceremony was held at InterContinental-Buckhead, and several residents were recognized for their achievements. GSO is committed to providing quality education and serving the community, having treated over 12,000 patients and awarded substantial scholarships. With a focus on excellence in patient care, GSO continues to shape the future of orthodontics.
What an exciting time for Atlanta as the Georgia School of Orthodontics (GSO) recently celebrated its largest graduating class yet! Established just seven years ago in 2016, the school has quickly gained a reputation for nurturing top-notch dental professionals. This year, a remarkable 40 residents completed the rigorous 36-month Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, marking a significant milestone for GSO.
The graduation ceremony took place at the splendid InterContinental-Buckhead in Atlanta, where triumph and inspiration filled the air. It was an occasion to celebrate not just the achievements of the residents but also the school’s commitment to providing world-class education in orthodontics.
The program at GSO is as comprehensive as it gets. With a mix of didactic learning, hands-on clinical training, and engaging research opportunities, the residents are well-prepared to become the next generation of highly qualified orthodontic specialists. The state-of-the-art facilities offer residents a perfect environment to hone their skills, while two patient clinics located in Atlanta and Duluth provide ample chances for real-world experience.
Moreover, GSO collaborates with Emory University’s oral surgery program to expose residents to unique and complex cases. This partnership helps ensure that graduates are well-rounded and ready to tackle any challenge thrown their way.
Beyond just education, GSO takes great pride in its commitment to serving the community. Since its inception, the school has treated over 12,000 patients and managed to save the Atlanta community a staggering $35 million in orthodontic costs! The school doesn’t stop there; it has also awarded over $2.5 million in scholarships to support aspiring orthodontists, ensuring a brighter future for many.
Additionally, GSO has generously provided more than $250,000 in complimentary orthodontic treatments to veterans, children, and community heroes. It is truly heartwarming to see an institution that not only focuses on education but also on giving back to those who have given so much.
During this momentous graduation ceremony, several outstanding residents were recognized with scholarships and awards that highlighted their dedication and hard work. Notably, the Doctor Melvin S. Polk Professional Integrity & Academic Achievement Scholarship was awarded to both Dr. Ariel B. Banks and Dr. Leo Freitas. Dr. Banks also received the Doctor Gasper Lazzara Diversity in the Field of Orthodontics Scholarship, showcasing the school’s commitment to promoting diversity within the field.
The Doctor Nathaniel Glover Leadership & Professionalism Scholarships recognized multiple residents who demonstrated exceptional leadership skills during their time at GSO. Special accolades were also given during the ceremony, including the Doctor John W. Stockstill Outstanding Research Award awarded to Dr. Mason Childers, proving that research is a critical element of the GSO program.
Wrapping up the ceremony was an inspiring keynote address from Dr. Lester G. Jackson III, a former Georgia Senator and dedicated dental officer. He shared insights from his rich background in dentistry, further encouraging graduates to uphold the highest standards in their future careers.
The Georgia School of Orthodontics continues to exemplify excellence in patient-centered care, teaching, research, and community service. With a strong commitment to the future of orthodontics and a long list of accomplishments already under its belt, the future looks bright for both GSO and its graduates.
