Georgia Public-School Students Achieve Impressive SAT Results Again

Georgia Public-School Students Shine Again on the SAT

Atlanta, GA – In yet another display of academic excellence, Georgia public-school students have once again outperformed their peers from across the nation on the SAT, marking the seventh consecutive year of this impressive trend. The class of 2024 achieved a remarkable mean score of 1030, which is a full 35 points higher than the national average of 995 for public-school students. It’s clear that Georgia is doing something right!

Breaking Down the Numbers

When we dive a little deeper into the numbers, the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) portion saw Georgia students achieve a mean score of 527. Meanwhile, Georgia students scored an average of 503 in the math section. Just to compare, the national averages for the same sections were 507 and 488, respectively. This shows a significant advantage for Georgia!

A Beacon of Educational Support

State School Superintendent Richard Woods expressed his pride in these accomplishments, stating, “I am so proud of the class of 2024 and their teachers, parents, families, and the communities who supported them.” This pride reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in shaping the education of these students. Woods went on to highlight that this success serves as a testament to the investment made in students’ “academic recovery post-pandemic” and creating plenty of opportunities in public schools that truly prepare every child for life.

Looking Back to 2023

However, it’s worth noting that even though Georgia’s scores are higher than the national average, they have seen a slight decrease from last year when the mean score was 1045. Similarly, the national mean score dropped as well, from 1003 in 2023. This year’s results come amidst a notable increase in participation, with 52% of Georgia’s class of 2024 taking the SAT at some point during high school, compared to 50% for the graduating class of 2023. Higher participation often leads to a moderate decrease in scores, as more students with varying academic backgrounds take the test.

What This Means for the Future

So, what does this mean for future Georgia students? It appears that the strides taken by educational leaders, teachers, and families are genuinely making a difference in students’ lives. As Georgia continues to embrace the rising number of test-takers, efforts to enhance educational quality and accessibility will remain paramount. The consistent performance shown by Georgia students suggests that the state is on the right track, despite the minor dip in scores.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these latest SAT scores are a source of pride for Georgia and its commitment to educational excellence. With ongoing support and resources, there’s no doubt that the state’s public-school students will continue to rise to the occasion and excel as they prepare for higher education and beyond.
