Celebrating Culinary Excellence: 2024 GRACE Awards Honor Georgia’s Restaurant Stars in Atlanta

Celebrating Culinary Excellence: 2024 GRACE Awards Shine in Atlanta

Atlanta recently played host to an exciting celebration of culinary talent at the Georgia Aquarium. The annual Georgia Restaurant Association Crystal of Excellence (GRACE) Awards took place on December 9, 2024, and it was nothing short of spectacular! This black-tie gala not only brought together the stars of Georgia’s vibrant restaurant scene but also highlighted their contributions to the community and the industry.

Honoring the Best in the Business

As the night unfolded, it became clear that the award winners represented the very best Georgia’s hospitality landscape has to offer. The GRACE Awards are unique because they are peer-nominated, and winners are chosen by a panel made up of past honorees and members of the Georgia Restaurant Association’s Board. Each recipient takes home a stunning crystal award, crafted by local artist Hans Godo Fräbel, making it a true work of art to display.

A Lifetime of Achievement

The crown jewel of the evening was the Lifetime Achievement Award, which went to the dynamic duo, Cindy and Alan LeBlanc. Their journey began in 1998 when they opened the oldest brewpub in Georgia, transforming once-vacant spaces into lively community hubs. With three successful concepts under their belt—Max Lager’s Woodfired Grill & Brewery, Bold Monk Brewing Co., and White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails—they have employed countless individuals and have consistently given back to their community through various initiatives.

Restaurateur of the Year

Amp Up1 Hospitality, known for its innovative dining and entertainment fusion, snagged the title of Restaurateur of the Year. Founded by Josh Rossmeisl, their mission centers on building community and connection. By prioritizing mentorship and well-being within his team, Rossmeisl creates a workplace culture that resonates with both staff and guests alike.

Rookies Making Waves

Rookie of the Year title shined a spotlight on Omakase Table + Ryokou. Chef Leonard Yu‘s dedication to Japanese culinary artistry has not only earned the establishment a Michelin star but also raised the bar for dining experiences across the state. His commitment to equal compensation for all staff sets a powerful example in the industry.

A Heart for Hospitality

This year, the Hospitality Hero of the Year accolade went to Zunzi’s + Zunzibar. Founded by Chris Smith, the restaurant is known for its mission-driven approach, supporting both staff development and community charities. Their creative initiative, ZUNZIFEST, donates a portion of sales to local nonprofits, making a tangible difference.

Fostering Future Chefs

The event also recognized Fulton County Schools as the Industry Partner of the Year. Through its culinary arts program, the school system has prepared students for fruitful careers in hospitality. The partnerships they’ve formed with local businesses give aspiring chefs invaluable hands-on experience, proving that education and real-world application go hand in hand.

People’s Choice and Special Mentions

The evening wouldn’t be complete without the People’s Choice Awards. The community’s favorites included AltaToro as Favorite Neighborhood Hangout, StillFire Brewing for Favorite Born-and-Raised Beverage, Levy Restaurants at State Farm Arena for Favorite Eatertainment Experience, and The Animal Farm in Columbus as the Uniquely Georgia Restaurant.

Spotlight on Individual Excellence

Recognition extended to exceptional individuals in the industry, with Jace Reeder of Fenders Diner taking home the Restaurant Manager of the Year title. With his passion for hospitality and community connection, Jace’s dedication has truly made a lasting impact. Meanwhile, Key Evans, celebrated as Restaurant Employee of the Year, has built a reputation for excellence through resilience and a positive team culture.

Legends Inducted into Hall of Fame

Lastly, the Hall of Fame welcomed several culinary legends, including Federico Castellucci II & Nancy Castellucci and Phil Noyes. Their deep-rooted commitment to the hospitality industry and community involvement have set unparalleled standards that inspire both current and future generations.

If this year’s GRACE Awards is any indication, the Georgia restaurant scene is in good hands, full of talent, dedication, and a whole lot of heart. From the city’s bustling eateries to community-oriented initiatives, each award winner showcases the passion and commitment that make Georgia a true culinary gem!
