Atlanta Hosts Pitch HearstLab Event to Boost Female Entrepreneurship

Atlanta Welcomes New Wave of Female Entrepreneurship

Atlanta has been buzzing with excitement this week as New York-based HearstLab made its way to the city for an exhilarating Pitch HearstLab event. This wasn’t just any ordinary pitch competition; it was an occasion that focused squarely on uplifting female founders leading innovative startups in today’s bustling tech landscape.

A Glimpse into the Future of Female-Led Startups

Hosted at the impressive Google Atlanta headquarters, the event featured five ambitious early-stage founders who pitched their groundbreaking ideas across different sectors such as ecommerce, AI, and health tech. The atmosphere was electric, with hopeful entrepreneurs showcasing their visions to a panel of savvy investors. It was a scene straight out of a tech enthusiast’s dreams, reminiscent of those exciting moments you see on popular competition shows.

Big Wins for Atlanta’s Female Founders

After all the pitches were made, two exceptional companies emerged victorious, with HearstLab writing out investment checks totaling a whopping $100,000. The first winner, Zinnia, is an Atlanta-based startup led by dynamic founder and CEO, Lauren Goodell. Zinnia is garnering attention as an AI co-pilot designed to assist sales representatives in a way that streamlines their processes and boosts productivity. Goodell expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We’re very excited to work with HearstLab and the entire team because they come with so much industry expertise and work with brands we know Zinnia can help, partner with, and learn from.”

But the celebration didn’t stop there! The second investment recipient was Croux, a Birmingham-based temporary staffing marketplace connecting trusted talent with flexible job opportunities in the hospitality sector. Co-founder and CEO, Jennifer Ryan, has quite a noteworthy background, having previously served as a Vice President at Goldman Sachs. She founded Croux in 2022 and considers the HearstLab investment a significant milestone. Ryan said, “This is validation that we’re not only doing something meaningful but also game changing.”

The Bigger Picture: Empowering Female Entrepreneurs

While these successes are certainly worth celebrating, they shed light on a broader issue many female entrepreneurs face. Despite the surge in women-led startups, data reveals a disheartening trend. Female-founded companies accounted for less than 2% of the venture capital funding invested in Europe and the US, according to recent Pitchbook data. This makes HearstLab’s initiatives all the more crucial, as they actively fight to change the financial landscape for women in business.

Since its inception, HearstLab has supported a total of 14 early-stage startups through the Pitch HearstLab format and boasts a portfolio of over 70 women-led startups valued at more than $2.4 billion. Notably, they’ve also invested in several Southeast-based startups, including companies from Nashville to Charlotte.

Opportunities Still Ahead

If you’re wondering what’s next, the good news is that this pitch competition may be over, but the door is still wide open for aspiring female founders eager to grab their share of investment. HearstLab welcomes applications throughout the year for investments ranging from $500K to $1M+. This is a fantastic opportunity for those with innovative ideas and the tenacity to make them a reality!

In a world where female entrepreneurs are still striving for equity, events like Pitch HearstLab shine a light on their challenges and triumphs. As Atlanta continues to pave the way for innovation and collaboration, one thing is for sure: the future is looking bright for women in tech and entrepreneurship. So, keep an eye on these awesome founders—who knows? You might just be witnessing the next big thing!
