Atlanta, Ga. – May 7, 2024 – Today, the Atlanta Falcons announce that 20 high schools across Alabama will receive grants from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to launch girls’ flag football programs. This announcement underscores the Falcons’ unwavering commitment to empowering young women through the launch of girls’ flag football programs.
In 2019, the Falcons spearheaded efforts for Georgia to recognize girls’ flag football as an official high school sport, becoming the fourth state to do so. Following that success, the Falcons, in collaboration with RCX Sports and the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), embarked on a groundbreaking pilot program to bring girls’ flag football to Alabama in 2021. Now, during the 2024-25 season, the AHSAA has sanctioned girls’ flag football as an official high school sport, marking a historic moment for Alabama.
A total of 112 high schools across the state have embraced this initiative, providing invaluable opportunities for student-athletes to excel on the field. Additionally, the Falcons announced that 42 high schools across Georgia and 12 schools across Montana will also receive grants from the Arthur M. Blank Foundation for girls’ flag football programs.
