Ex-Swim Coach Convicted of Child Sexual Assault
Jon Michael Beber, a former swimming coach arrested in Atlanta, has been found guilty on charges related to child sexual assault while he held a coaching position in Colorado. The verdict was handed down on April 23, 2024.

The court found Beber guilty on two counts of sexual assault of a child by someone in a position of trust – a pattern of abuse – and one-count sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust. These convictions come as a result of sustained investigation into allegations that Bird had sexual contact with underage swimmers he was coaching.
In a statement, District Attorney Michael Dougherty said: “This defendant sexually abused swimmers whom he coached. Despite the passage of time, and because of the courage and strength of the victims, the defendant is being held responsible for the abuse and trauma he inflicted upon them. Our office was honored to fight for justice for these victims. We appreciate the service and hard work of the jurors.“
A Series of Transfers
According to investigators, Beber was a coach for the Boulder Swimming club team from 1997 to 2002 and left the team due to these allegations. However, no police reports were filed at the time. He worked as a swim coach in multiple locations, including New York, Florida, and Georgia, before being arrested in Atlanta after three individuals came forth with their reports in 2002.
