THE ELEMENTS OF EUCLID Invigorates the Atlanta Fringe Festival with a Compelling Intersection of Art, Romance, and Euclidean Geometry

Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Fringe Festival’s 2024 roster is enriched by the fascinating addition of “The Elements of Euclid”, an original theatrical performance that infuses time-honored geometry with an engaging narrative of art, romance, and the vibrant, Bohemian spirit of Little Five Points.

Coalescing the timeless principles of geometry with the personal stories of three Atlanta-based artists – a photographer, a writer, and a musician – the performance brings tangible life to the mathematical musings of ancient Greek mathematician Euclid. The unravelling narrative takes centrestage at the 7 Stages Mainstage, with shows scheduled for Thursday June 6th, Saturday June 8th, and Sunday June 9th.

Geometry Meets Love On Euclid Avenue

Authored by Brian Bannon and directed by J.L. Reed, “The Elements of Euclid” ingeniously transforms the mathematical logic of Euclid’s famed work into an enticing story. The unfolding narrative transports the audience along a journey of human connections, creative passions, and personal rivalries.

Set against the backdrop of Atlanta’s colorful Little Five Points neighborhood, the narrative probes into the lives of three characters who are entwined in a kaleidoscope of romantic complexities and artistic competitions. The drama of their intersection plays out at the iconic landmarks of Euclid Avenue – The Variety Playhouse, Elmyr, and The Euclid Ave. Yacht Club, among others.

Such a unique approach serves as a fresh tribute to the much-loved spirit of Little Five Points. “The trinity of characters mirrors the area’s distinct artistic individuality,” expresses Bannon, emphasizing that the photographer captures life through a lens, the writer pens intricate realities into existence, and the musician breathes rhythm into the Atlanta air.

Shining A New Light on Euclid’s Legacy

Brian Bannon’s innovative storytelling perspective binds together the principles of Euclidean geometry with the passions, dreams, and struggles of three creative minds. The performance unveils how their lives intersect along parallel, perpendicular, and angular lines of destiny.

“The Elements of Euclid” unearths a fresh understanding of the age-old geometric theorems, painting them in the vivid colors of human life, emotional depth, and artistic dedication. This unusual Fringe Festival offering creates an intriguing bridge between the abstract world of figures and the concrete world of human experiences.

The seasoned ensemble cast comprised of Abagail Dawkins, Roberto Méndez, and Lance Avery Brown brings Bannon’s vibrant exploration of life’s geometry to fruition.
