In a shocking turn of events, two men were placed under arrest following their capture with drugs, stolen firearms, and several dogs, some appearing maltreated, in a home located in southwest Atlanta. The arresting officers identified the suspects as Marquise Willis and Antonio Slaton.
Directorates from the A.P.E.X. and Narcotics Unit carried out a search on Tuesday at a residential address on the 4000 block of Bakers Ferry Rd SW as part of an active investigation into illegal drugs trade. Upon arrival, the police were able to spot Willis and Slaton at the premises.
Unexpectedly, Willis attempted to flee via the front door but was apprehended, along with Slaton, at the scene.
Upon further exploration of the property, the officers revealed that over 11 pounds of marijuana, 24.9 grams of cocaine, 20.7 grams of MDMA, 34 grams of Oxycodone pills, and 11 pint bottles of promethazine were stashed in the house.
Beyond the narcotics, the investigators found eight firearms, two of which were reported stolen, along with nearly a thousand dollars in cash. Police also discovered multiple dogs in cages across the property.
In light of their ordeal, the Fulton Animal Control has since assumed custody of these animals. Both Willis and Slaton remain detained with several charges pending.
Andrea Boone, Atlanta’s Public Safety Chair, expressed her astonishment at the brazen moves allegedly made by drug peddlers in her community. Boone commended Atlanta police for apprehending the two men, seizing the drugs, guns, and rescuing the dogs – some of whom were reportedly malnourished.
Lamenting the fact that these criminal activities were taking place less than a quarter mile from her residence in Adamsville, Boone expressed her appreciation to vigilant neighbors who promptly reported suspicious activities in the area.
The targeted house on Bakers Ferry Road had nothing pointing to it as a hub for illegal activities. It was well-kept, surrounded by trimmed shrubbery and even had a graduation banner adorning its front.
Boone admitted feeling stunned by the hidden illegal activities, considering the relative peace of the retirement community where the residence is situated.
“In Adamsville, a retired community, for such nefarious activities to be happening is absolutely shocking. The dogs, the drugs, the guns – it is astonishing,” she confessed.
Boone advocated for increased community surveillance and reporting, urging residents to alert officials if they observe any suspicious activities or traffic within their communities.
