Dragon Con 2024 Kicks Off: Atlanta Welcomes Thousands

ATLANTA — Every Labor Day weekend, downtown Atlanta transforms into a hub of vibrant personalities as the much-anticipated Dragon Con returns to the Hyatt Hotel. Participants, excited to immerse themselves in a world of alter egos, leave their real identities at the revolving door. From superheroes to supervillains, the convention offers a unique playground where everyone can be whoever they wish.

A World of Characters

The attendees introduced themselves in unique ways:

  • “My name is Ragun.”
  • “I’m a covert Mandalorian.”
  • “I’m Willy Wonka.”
  • “And I’m Willy Wonka.”

These statements perfectly capture the essence of Dragon Con. According to spokesperson Jo Garland, “Atlanta is a wonderful artist, fun, geeky town. We all get to come together and rejoice.” The enthusiasm was palpable as the event celebrated its 38th birthday.

More Than Just Costumes

Dragon Con is more than just an event for costumed fans—it’s a vibrant celebration of pop culture. Many attendees are decked out in their Sunday best. Among them, was an Aquaman look-alike who humorously mentioned, “The transition from Atlantis to Atlanta is an easy one overall.” Even Harley Quinn made an appearance, playfully adding, “Even if I did [find Batman], I do have a nice kiss to give him!”

The Gathering of the Geeks

For many, attending Dragon Con is an annual tradition. Aquaman expressed, “Every time I come back for the Con it really does feel like home. It feels like one big family reunion.” Harley Quinn echoed similar sentiments, noting, “I really just miss all my friends. Dragon Con is the best place to come and find them.”

The lucky fans who managed to book rooms in one of the event’s host hotels especially enjoyed the convenience of staying close to the action. At the Hyatt on Peachtree Street, general manager Derrick Morrow shared, “We’re completely sold out. I mean, the whole city is doing great. You’re talking about 75,000 people.”

Looking Ahead

The city of Atlanta is already gearing up for next year’s event. Dragon Con 2024 is scheduled from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2. It promises to be another grand celebration, bringing together a community of fans passionate about science fiction, fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film.

With anticipation building up for the next year’s line-up, Dragon Con continues to cement itself as a staple event in the city’s cultural calendar. The sense of camaraderie, shared experiences, and enjoyment ensures that Dragon Con remains unforgettable for both new attendees and returning fans.

So, mark your calendars and start planning your costumes—Dragon Con 2024 isn’t something you’ll want to miss!
