Dragon Con 2024 Takes Over Downtown Atlanta

Dragon Con 2024 Takes Over Downtown Atlanta

Hey, y’all! Get ready for some fun because Dragon Con 2024 is about to take over downtown Atlanta. If you’re into sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming, or just love cosplay and parades, then rev up your engines ’cause it’s time to party!

What’s Dragon Con All About?

For those who don’t follow the fandom, Dragon Con is a world-famous convention celebrating all things related to sci-fi, fantasy, gaming and pop culture. Every year on Labor Day Weekend, downtown Atlanta transforms into a vibrant and exciting hub of costumes, panels, and gaming. This year, it kicks off on August 29 and runs through September 2.

Who’s Going to Be There?

From the sounds of it, there’s going to be some pretty big celebs in town. We’ve got legends like John Cleese, Walter Koenig, and the OG of action movies, Danny Trejo. And that’s not all! We also have fan faves from shows like Doctor Who, Marvel, and Firefly, and from the world of comics and puppetry. Plus, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles voice actors are planning a reunion. How cool is that!

Gamer’s Paradise

And for the gamers among us, there’s a lot to look forward to! Apart from the three acres of gaming fun at the AmericasMart Building, Dragon Con 2024 is also celebrating a big one–the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons! Special guest Luke Gygax, son of D&D creator Gary Gygax, will join in the festivities, made even better with the participation of voice actors from hit D&D video game, Baldur’s Gate III.

A Parade Like No Other

What’s a con without a parade, right? On the morning of August 31, the streets of downtown Atlanta will burst into a riot of colors with the annual Dragon Con parade. Free for all, you can either find a spot in the crowd or watch it live from the comfort of your home!

Cosplay and Charity

If you love dressing up, you’ll want to enter the cosplay competitions, which include the Dragon Con Masquerade and the Friday Night Costume Contest. And feel great while doing so! This year’s official charity is the Georgia chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, supported by Dragon Con’s fundraising efforts. They’ve got auctions, merchandise sales, and assorted charity events lined up, and they’re even matching donations upto $125,000.

Something A Little Extra

What sets Dragon Con apart is the community spirit. Over the past decade, they’ve donated more than $1.3 million to Atlanta-based charities. And they’re not stopping there! They’re also hosting the biggest convention-based blood drive in the nation, benefitting LifeSouth, which serves our local hospitals.

Wrap Up and Get Ready

Whether you’re visiting Atlanta for the first time or call this lovely city home, there’s no better way to spend your Labor Day Weekend than at Dragon Con 2024. Mark your calendars and get ready for some serious fun!
