Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – Police are currently investigating a tragic incident that led to two separate crime scenes in DeKalb County early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a call at The Landing at Pleasantdale apartments around 4:30 a.m. Upon arriving, they found a woman suffering from two gunshot wounds. A resident of the complex reported hearing gunfire followed by a woman’s scream, stating she had been shot. Witnesses on the scene said they saw the injured woman hurriedly getting into a car and driving away.

Police believe the woman managed to get to a shopping center approximately half a mile from the apartment complex, from where she called for help. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities have yet to release further information regarding her identity or current medical status.

As the investigation continued at The Landing at Pleasantdale, another grim discovery was made. A second person, later identified as the shooting suspect, was found dead at the apartment complex. Investigators suspect this person died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Details about the suspect’s identity have not been disclosed at this time.

The investigation is still in its early stages as authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. If anyone has information that could assist in the investigation, police are encouraging them to reach out with details.

Storm Preparations as Hurricane Helene Approaches

In other news, residents across Atlanta are urged to take precautions as storms are expected to hit the area, spurred by Hurricane Helene. The storm, which intensified and was classified as a hurricane shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, is predicted to bring serious weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, potential flooding, and power outages.

With the arrival of Tropical Storm Helene imminent, various events have already been canceled throughout Georgia. The community is advised to prepare and ensure safety measures are in place ahead of the serious weather conditions expected.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina has opened its campgrounds to people evacuating from areas in the storm’s path, providing a safe place for those seeking shelter. Residents in metro Atlanta and other affected areas are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary actions to remain safe during this period.

Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops. Remember, safety is paramount. If you have any information regarding the DeKalb County shooting or need assistance with storm preparations, local authorities are ready to help.
