DeKalb County Restaurant Closes Panola Road Location Due to Major Road Reconstruction

DeKalb County Restaurant Closes Location Amid Major Road Reconstruction

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The beloved local eatery, This Is It!, is saying farewell to its Panola Road location in the face of a major upcoming construction project by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). In a heartfelt announcement made on Facebook, the founder and CEO, Shelley “Butch” Anthony, shared that the restaurant has been a cherished gathering spot for families and friends since it opened its doors back in 2010.

“It’s been more than just a restaurant — It’s been a place for family, friends, and cherished memories. We’re deeply grateful for your loyalty,” Anthony expressed. It’s clear that the Panola location holds a special place in the hearts of the community, and the upcoming closure is bittersweet for many regulars.

Changes Ahead With GDOT’s Vision

The GDOT plans to make substantial alterations to the area, aiming to reconstruct the Panola Road at the I-20 interchange into a diverging diamond interchange. This change aims to improve both traffic flow and safety for everyone traveling through the area. It’s a big project that is expected to take several years, with a completion target set for 2026.

As for This Is It!, the anticipated closure date for the Panola Road site is November 11, but there’s a glimmer of hope for fans of the soul food haven as Anthony stated they hope to keep the doors open until December 7, providing a bit more time for customers to enjoy their favorite meals.

The Legacy Continues

Even as the Panola Road location prepares to close, This Is It! wants its loyal patrons to know that the experience isn’t over just yet! Anthony and his team are encouraging everyone to continue enjoying the delicious BBQ and soul food at their other locations on Memorial Drive and Stockbridge.

“We look forward to continuing to serve you with the same great food and hospitality you’ve come to love,” Anthony stated. This is certainly an invitation for all the loyal fans to keep supporting local businesses, especially during this transitional period.

Community Thanks and Moving Forward

It’s clear that the closure has ignited a wave of nostalgia among patrons. Many have taken to social media to share their own memories of the location. The warmth and connection that the restaurant has fostered in the community can be felt in Anthony’s heartfelt message: “Thank you for being part of our journey. We trust in God’s plan and believe in blessings ahead. We hope to see you soon!”

If you have any stories or thoughts to share about This Is It! or any other local gems, the community wants to hear from you! It’s always great to share thoughts and experiences with other members of this vibrant community.

As the final closing date approaches, fans of This Is It! are encouraged to pop in for one last meal at the Panola Road location. Let’s celebrate the memories and looking forward to what lies ahead for both the restaurant and its loyal customers!
