ATLANTA, Ga. – A daycare facility located in Snellville, known as the Destined For Greatness Academy, has become the center of a lawsuit after video footage surfaced appearing to show one of the daycare employees dragging and hitting a three-year-old child. The distressed family is now seeking justice.
After a daunting legal battle for five years against the daycare center, the McLaughlins have decided to share their traumatic experience. “As a father, my job is to protect, and you feel like you didn’t do your job,” said Mr. McLaughlin.
According to the family, cameras installed within the daycare facility captured disturbing visuals of their three-year-old daughter being dragged, cornered, and apparently hit by an employee. The sight of the video led to an emotional breakdown for the parents. “It was very, very hard to see. We broke down the moment the video started,” expressed Mrs. McLaughlin.
According to the McLaughlin’s attorney, Eston Hood, the management of the daycare initially tried to mask the severity of the incident by claiming that the child had fallen off a bicycle which had resulted in the bruising on her arms. Nevertheless, when the parents refused to believe the explanation provided, they were shown the video recording of the incident.
Seeking justice for their daughter, the McLaughlins are now suing the Destined For Greatness Academy for damages and have not disclosed the demanded amount.
Repeated attempts were made to receive a comment from the daycare administration, but until now, no response has been received. The owner of the daycare center and its attorney were contacted multiple times but there were no answers.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning has informed that a fine of $500 was imposed on the academy for jeopardizing the health and safety of a child in its care. It was reported that the child in question sustained bruises on both arms and the upper torso due to the physical discipline by the staff.
However, the daycare’s license was not revoked, skewing the parent’s faith in the system. “Here we are five years later and we’re still dealing with it,” mentioned Mrs. McLaughlin. “It’s definitely an emotional roller coaster.”
Charges were pressed against the daycare employee who appeared in the video. According to the attorney representing the McLaughlins, the employee served a jail sentence of five days and was terminated from the daycare employment since then.
