Folsom Welcomes a New Chief Building Official

The city of Folsom is buzzing with excitement as it recently announced the appointment of Allison Konwinski as the new Chief Building Official. With over 15 years of experience in engineering and a strong foundation in building codes, permitting, and safety standards, she’s ready to lead the city’s Building Division.

Stepping Up to the Challenge

Konwinski, who has spent more than five years with the city, previously held the position of Deputy Building Official. In her new role, she will supervise building inspections, oversee permitting operations, and conduct plan reviews, ensuring that all projects comply with the city’s rigorous safety and compliance standards. As she steps into this leadership position, she is set to provide valuable guidance to property owners, designers, and contractors navigating the complexities of building code requirements.

One of the exciting initiatives on her agenda is taking charge of the Folsom Accelerated Small Tenant Improvement Review program. This program is designed to streamline and speed up the permitting process, making it easier for small businesses to flourish in the community. “We are fortunate to have someone of Allison’s exceptional caliber as our Chief Building Official,” said Community Development Director Pam Johns. “Her leadership, technical expertise, strong work ethic, and commitment to exceptional service make her the perfect choice for this important role.”

A Wealth of Experience

Before joining the City of Folsom, Konwinski worked as a senior engineer at the City of Sacramento and provided engineering services at several private structural firms in Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Diego. Her diverse background gives her a comprehensive understanding of the entire building process, from schematic design to construction documentation, detailed plan reviews, construction administration, and project approvals.

Allison holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, and she also earned a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of California, San Diego. This strong academic foundation, combined with her extensive practical experience, positions her well to handle the challenges that come with overseeing Folsom’s building projects.

Life Outside of Work

When she’s not busy with her official duties, Allison enjoys spending time in the beautiful city of Folsom, where she resides with her family. She has a passion for giving back to the community, which is evident from her role as a soccer coach. If you’ve ever seen kids practicing on the field, there’s a good chance that she’s been the guiding hand behind their teamwork and sportsmanship.

Allison is also an outdoor enthusiast. You might catch her paddleboarding at Lake Natoma, or perhaps enjoying some leisure time in the historic part of Folsom, taking in the rich history and the charm of the town. With strong ties to the community, it’s clear that Allison not only cares about the buildings in Folsom but also about the people who inhabit them.

Looking Ahead

As Folsom continues to grow and develop, having someone like Konwinski at the helm of the Building Division is certainly a positive step forward. Her expertise and community-oriented mindset promise to serve both the city and its residents well. We can’t wait to see the positive changes she will bring to the bustling city of Folsom.
