What’s up, Atlanta? There’s some big news coming your way! Eager to keep the ball rolling after their successful Hub Atlanta student housing tower, the Chicago developers, Core Spaces, are setting their sights on a second project close to Georgia Tech’s campus.
Here’s what happened – they just filed an application to get started on what’s dubbed as the Hub Cypress, a massive student housing tower that will boast 265 units and span a whopping 387,000 square feet! The project is set to go up next to the historic Academy of Medicine building at the corner of Seventh and Cypress streets, which is just a short walk north of Tech Square in Midtown.
But that’s not all! They’re also throwing in a cozy 1,600 square foot street-level coffee shop and a three-level parking space for about 161 vehicles. A portion of these parking spaces will be reserved for the academy’s folks to use, as mentioned in the application.
Last September saw the grand opening of Core Spaces’ first student haven in the city known as the 19-story, 292-unit Hub Atlanta student housing project. Its sibling, Hub Cypress, is projected to rise from what is now a surface parking lot, about a mile away to the west.
The guys at Core Spaces have slightly changed their original plan which included 295 units. However, the changes will not have any impact on the old and charming Academy of Medicine building, which is currently being used by Georgia Tech for holding events.
Local coffee aficionados are in for a real treat as Danielle Glasky is planning to transform 12th & Everything, a two-building retail complex snugly located across from Piedmont Park, into a spanking new coffee bar called Old Sol. This place is set to buzz with energy in 2025.
Now, if you thought that was all the news we had for you, you were wrong. Crescent Communities filed permits this week to begin building Novel Blandtown, a seven-story, 250-unit apartment complex. This beauty includes a 4,700-square-foot, single-story retail building on, hold your breath, 3 acres of land! Quite the grand project plotted for 1095 and 1121 Huff Road, if you ask us.
But wait, we’re not finished yet! Buckle up, folks, as Peachtree Group just announced the promotion of Vickie Callahan to president of the firm’s hospitality management division. She’s now tasked with overseeing the company’s 88 hotels that hold over 11,000 rooms across 23 states. Well, that’s a mountain of a job!
Oh, and a New York-based investor has also just sealed the deal on the Nursecare of Buckhead facility at 2920 Pharr Court South, paying none other than a cool $15.6 billion! This 220-bed, 83,000 square foot facility sits just north of the Buckhead Village.
To sum up, there’s a lot brewing in Atlanta at the moment, folks, and it’s that dynamic spirit that makes the city so unique and ever-evolving. Here’s looking forward to the exciting times ahead!
