ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An elementary school in Atlanta was given the all-clear after students were evacuated Wednesday morning because of a gas leak. Officials said the source of the leak was found and the system was repaired.
The incident occurred at Cascade Elementary School located at 2326 Venetian Drive SW. Atlanta Public Schools (APS) mentioned that the morning crews detected a strong gas odor within the school premises and promptly reported it to the authorities. As a precautionary measure, students and staff members were evacuated from the building.
To ensure the safety of the students, they were relocated to West Manor Elementary School while awaiting the all-clear from the gas leak situation. Parents expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by the school administration in handling the emergency.
“I was just trying to figure out what was going on,” said Charina Hardeman, a parent of a student. “He probably won’t be in school tomorrow just to be safe.”
Following thorough inspections and repairs, officials confirmed that the gas leak had been addressed, and the school was deemed safe for occupancy. School operations are set to resume as usual on Thursday, allowing students to return to their classrooms.
Parents can rest assured that necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the students and staff at Cascade Elementary School. The quick response and effective resolution of the gas leak incident demonstrate the commitment of Atlanta Public Schools to prioritize the well-being of the school community.
For any further updates or concerns regarding the incident, parents are encouraged to stay in touch with the school administration or visit the official Atlanta Public Schools website.
