Accused Car Thief Shot By Fulton Deputy During Police Pursuit

ATLANTA, GA

An 18-year-old male involved in alleged car theft was shot by a Fulton County deputy during a vehicular pursuit which escalated into a foot race on Wednesday, according to sources with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

A Pursuit Followed by Gunfire

The scene began developing at Harwell Road when a Fulton County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect, an Atlanta resident, chose to flee the scene rather than comply. Subsequently, he withdrew on to Delmar Lane where he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash. Post the crash, the suspect did not cease his attempts to escape and took off on foot.

The escalation ensued when the suspect, while being chased by the deputies, brandished a pistol. To mitigate the danger, a deputy fired a single round which struck the suspect. Despite sustaining an injury, the man continued his flight, running into a nearby backyard. The police later discovered the man and apprehended him from the same location. Investigators found a discharged firearm near the spot where the suspect was taken into custody.

Immediate Response, Hospitalization and Investigation

Upon the suspect’s surrender, officers administered first-aid and subsequently transported him to a local hospital for further treatment. It is reported that his condition is stable.

Upon preliminary investigation, authorities concluded that the vehicle driven by the man was stolen. The GBI is presently spearheading an independent investigation pertaining to the incident. Post completion, the GBI will forward the complete case file to the Fulton County District Attorney’s office for a thorough review.

In the wake of these events, local inhabitants are urged to remain vigilant. Residents are also advised to subscribe to real-time updates on local news to keep themselves abreast of current events in their community.

Atlanta, A Throng of Happenings

In recent days, Atlanta has found itself in the limelight for a spectrum of reasons ranging from being ranked the 2nd Best City to Live In U.S. with its dynamic housing market registering a consistent growth in June, and heart-warming news of a dog park being named among the best in Georgia. Also, forecasters are keeping an eye on a new tropical disturbance brewing near the Georgia Coast and urge public to remain updated on weather news.

While this recent incident serves a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement, overall, Atlanta, the heart of Georgia, continues to pulsate with life, vibrancy, and a multitude of experiences.
