In the heart of Brookhaven, Georgia, a city known for its rich cultural diversity, folks are gearing up for an event that promises to be a delightful celebration of global unity. This weekend, Brookhaven is excited to host the second annual Brookhaven International Festival along the Peachtree Creek Greenway, happening on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20.
The festival, initially held last year, marks an important event along the Buford Highway Cultural Corridor, and organizers are pulling out all the stops to make it an even richer experience for everyone involved. A cornerstone of this year’s festival is the eye-catching Cielo Tejido (Woven Sky). This is no ordinary installation; it’s a breathtaking 650-foot long hand-woven canopy that hails from Mexico.
The vibrant and colorful canopy was lovingly crafted by talented women artisans from Etzatlán, Jalisco. It is a miniature version of the orginal Cielo Tejido that received a Guinness World Record in 2019 for being the largest crochet canopy in the world. Now, visitors to the festival can enjoy looking straight up at this stunning piece of art as it adorns the Peachtree Creek Greenway Bridge near the trailhead.
The canopy, brought to Brookhaven through a collaboration between the City of Brookhaven and Explore Brookhaven, will remain on display through the end of the month. This combination of art and culture serves as a powerful reminder of our interconnectedness with cultures from all around the globe.
The adventures don’t stop with the canopy. The Brookhaven International Festival is teeming with activities for the whole family to enjoy. Attendees will be treated to an array of live performances on the Brookhaven International Festival Stage. There’s something magical about experiencing beats, melodies, and dances from a variety of cultures all in one place.
Foodies, rejoice! The festival offers an enticing selection of international cuisine that promises to take your taste buds on a global journey. From traditional street foods to gourmet delights, there’s a dish for everyone to savor.
For those interested in unique artisan crafts, the global marketplace will feature a plethora of vendors showcasing their handmade wares from all around the world. It’s a perfect opportunity to pick up one-of-a-kind treasures and trinkets.
Looking to get active? Don’t miss out on the 5K run-walk benefiting We Love Buford Highway happening on Sunday morning. It’s a great way to contribute to a good cause while getting some exercise and fresh air.
The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor exploring Brookhaven, this is an event not to be missed. It’s an occasion to celebrate the diverse cultures that weave neatly into the fabric of our community.
So, mark your calendars! Grab your family and friends and come join the fun at the Brookhaven International Festival. It’s a perfect way to spend the weekend celebrating cultures, community, and creativity under the Cielo Tejido.
