In a spirited move that aims to encourage and train budding young talents in Atlanta, Broadway Dreams has announced a full week of comprehensive musical theatre training and master classes for Atlanta-area students. Adding an even brighter note, the organization will be offering scholarships to two deserving students who present a true passion for art, commendable musicianship, and strong dance and acting skills.
As part of “Broadway Dreams Goes Pop,” the 2024 Summer Intensive Tour, the organization kicked off a week of rigorous musical theatre training at the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School. Powered by a faculty of top Broadway veterans, the week-long program ends in an electrifying Broadway-style cabaret show. Here, the attendees will get the opportunity to perform alongside their Broadway idols at Pebblebrook on Friday, June 7th at 6 PM.
The list of Broadway Dreams Atlanta faculty consists of industry heavyweights like Michael McElroy (Rent), Christopher Campbell (MJ the Musical), and Warren Egypt Franklin (Hamilton). Other names include a high-profile lineup of NYC casting directors like Rachel Hoffman, CSA, and Peter Dunn, in addition to Broadway Dreams Founder and President Annette Tanner and Artistic Director Nicholas Rodriguez (Company).
The decision to provide MJ THE MUSICAL Scholarships was inspired by the successful involvement of Broadway Dreams alumni in the hit musical. The selected students, hailing from their Atlanta and Dallas programs, will receive scholarships that will help groom their skillsets and craft better.
Students will also have a chance to audition for NYC casting directors, Rachel Hoffman, CSA of The Telsey Office, and Peter Dunn. This opportunity has paved the way for past Broadway Dreams participants to join the cast of MJ, both on Broadway and the National Tour. So far, five students have been cast in MJ, including Jordan Markus, Bryce A. Holmes, Ilario Grant, Carina-Kay Louchiey, and Wonza Johnson.
The 2024 Summer Intensive Tour commenced last week at Belmont University in Nashville, TN before continuing to Atlanta, GA. The tour will also cover several cities across the United States, before finishing at Europa-Park in Rust, Germany from August 4th to 10th.
Established in 2006, Broadway Dreams provides specialized performing arts training programs year-round, leveraging a broad network of teaching artists from the Broadway community. The organization, now in its 17th year, has empowered more than 20,000 students from over 8 countries and has given more than $1.5M in scholarships.
