Metro Atlanta has a lot to celebrate! A recent ranking has showcased eight nursing homes in the area as some of the very best in the nation. This exciting news comes from a comprehensive report that highlights facilities offering short- or long-term care and assisted living services. With so many choices available, it’s encouraging to know that a select few are really standing out.
According to the latest report, only less than 20 percent of nursing homes evaluated made it to the top tier! This minimal selection certainly emphasizes the significance of those that did. In total, there are about 108 nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities in the metro Atlanta area. Out of these, eight have clinched a perfect rating of 5 out of 5. Quite an accomplishment, wouldn’t you say?
Lucky residents and their families can feel reassured knowing that these facilities have proven themselves worthy of such recognition. As part of a nationwide evaluation that looked at more than 1,600 cities and various quality measures, it’s clear that these nursing homes are focused on improving resident care. The eight standout nursing homes are now part of the exclusive best list, where quality in care plays a significant role.
Looking even closer to home, it seems Georgia isn’t lagging behind in the quality care game. Out of 357 nursing homes evaluated statewide, a substantial 335 made it to the best list for 2025. This means 285 of these homes were recognized for long-term care, while 324 excelled in short-term care.
Despite the comforting news about quality facilities, there’s a cloud hovering over the nursing home scene. The evaluation report revealed that more than half of nursing homes across the country struggle to meet federal staffing regulations. Specifically, many nursing homes do not fulfill the requirement of providing at least eight registered nurse staffing hours each day. On average, these underperforming facilities had 15 days of inadequate staffing. What does that mean for residents? Obviously, staffing levels continue to be a major challenge for these essential services.
Interestingly, the analyzed short-term rehabilitation facilities ranked among the best have around 50 percent more nursing care per resident compared to those that fell below the average. It’s all about finding the right balance in staff retention, along with ensuring that the facilities remain focused on best practices and providing a friendly, supportive environment.
When we take a broader look at the rankings, it’s clear that metro areas like Boston, Chicago, New York City, and others also feature several nursing homes on the best list. These areas demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and improving the lives of their residents.
As this ranking by U.S. News rolls in, it serves as a reminder of what truly matters in nursing home care—dedication to health, safety, and the comfort of residents. As we move into the coming years, it will be crucial for these facilities to address staffing shortages and maintain their high-performance standards. After all, the most vulnerable among us deserve nothing but the best. Here’s to celebrating these nursing homes that have raised the bar for quality care in metro Atlanta and beyond!
