New Art Collection Highlights the Vibrant Essence of B-Boy Culture in Alpharetta

New Art Collection Celebrates B-Boy Culture in Alpharetta

Alpharetta is buzzing with excitement over the latest artistic venture from DL Warfield, a talented artist who knows a thing or two about cultural expression. His new series, titled Cyphers, dives deep into the vibrant world of B-boy culture, a passion rooted in his own youth. Warfield, who has been a significant player in the art scene since he showcased his one-man show, My Boyfriend Is Black, in 2016, continues to explore themes of love, culture, and identity through his powerful and eye-catching works.

The Journey So Far

Warfield’s artistic journey began with a striking collection that featured unexpected pairings, like iconic figures Jimi Hendrix and Jackie Kennedy portraited side by side, or stars like Tupac Shakur with Audrey Hepburn. Through these works, he challenged societal norms surrounding interracial relationships, a topic close to his heart as he himself is married to a White woman named Lisa. Their love story traces back to their high school days in the segregated city of St. Louis. Warfield reflects, “We had to be committed to be together. My thought was always, you don’t really choose the person that you love, you just love the person.”

After eight fulfilling years working on this impactful collection, Warfield felt it was time to move on. “I didn’t want my work to become cliché or commercial,” he shares, acknowledging that sometimes, repetition can dilute the meaning behind a piece of art. He added, “If you keep playing it, it might not mean as much, because people become tone-deaf or desensitized.”

Introducing Cyphers

Now, Warfield is channeling his energy into Cyphers, celebrating the essential elements of hip-hop with a twist. His circular works incorporate the four elements of hip-hop, framed in the beautiful traditions of Arabic mehndi and Moorish damascene patterns. He sees this new series as a vibrant homage to the art of B-boying that so profoundly shaped his formative years.

While balancing his art studio work and running his creative services agency, Goldfinger C.S., from his home office, Warfield continues to be prolific. He also created other works such as AmericanFlagRemix, a mixed-media take on the American flag, and DOPE, which reinvents the iconic LOVE sculpture through a hip-hop lens.

Art Collectors and Public Installations

Warfield’s art has captured the attention of many, including celebrities like Dave Chappelle, Usher, and T.I.. He has built an impressive collection at several notable public and private installations across the country. His works are showcased in venues such as Mercedes-Benz Stadium and The Trap Museum, while art enthusiasts in Atlanta can find pieces at places like Art & Company and Maune Contemporary Art Gallery.

Recently, his AmericanFlagRemix piece even found a home at the Vans Sportswear Company headquarters in California. Additionally, for those who want to snag a piece of Warfield’s creativity for themselves, he offers limited-edition items like DOPE apparel and home goods through his online store, goldfingershop.com.

A Unique Perspective

What truly sets Warfield’s work apart is his ability to view the world through a distinctive lens, aiming to reflect an unapologetic Black perspective. “When I go places, I always bring something back mentally that will find itself in some pieces that I do,” he notes. His background as a young Black man growing up in St. Louis informs every stroke of his brush. As he puts it, he started with “a sketchbook full of dreams.”

As Warfield embarks on this exciting new chapter, we can’t wait to see what he’ll create next. Cap off your day with a visit to his studio and let the B-boy culture inspire you!
