Yo folks, let’s talk about what’s cooking in Georgia this happening August. The Actor’s Express is pulling on a new look, transforming into the Kit Kat Club, the funky hotspot in the sexy city of Berlin from way back in 1929. There’s this interesting bloke who wanders into Berlin and hooks up with a fun bunch of locals and the ravishing singing diva Sally Bowles. But things ain’t always fun and games, fellas, there’s trouble brewing. Lots of fantastic songs like “Wilkommen,” “Mein Herr,” “Maybe This Time”, and, of course, “Cabaret” will keep your feet tapping. This is all set to kick off from August 9th through September 1st.
Alright, then we got a comic musical treat lined up for you cats. The Great American Trailer Park Musical is all prepped to make your sides split, brought to you by Onstage Atlanta. And for our animal-lovers out there, the Project Chimps chimpanzee sanctuary in North Georgia is all set to host Bananarama II, a fun fundraiser happening on August 11th and 12th.
Next up, you guys gotta check out Disco Diva Drag Bingo hosted by PALS Atlanta, it’s gonna be a total riot! And friendly folks at Sister Louisa’s Church are throwing up an event you certainly ain’t seen before – AMEN! The Candyland Show. So, candy-lovers, tag along!
The Atlanta Dream are all set to take on the Seattle Storm on August 16th, it’s gonna be wild! Follow that up with a stunning movie screening of “This Time”, a narrative all about acceptance and understanding. Get a load of this free movie hosted by Free Mom Hugs, Atlanta Chapter – only at the Out Front Theatre Company. Ain’t no better way to wrap up a movie than with a drag show, right?
For the folks out there supporting their LGBTQIA+ fam, the PFLAG support group meets this month for a much-needed expression session. Later, you can join the celebration with 2024 Atlanta Pride grand marshals at a special reception right in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. All those extra keen for a night of fun can head over to the iconic Fox Theatre for the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody Sing-Along’ on August 24th.
Mark your calendars because the Atlanta Black Pride Weekend and the ain’t-to-be-missed Dragon Con, a mega culture convention, are both on the cards for the end of August. To top it all off, Mayor Andre Dickens is hosting the 5th Annual Mayor’s Global Black Pride Reception as Atlanta is all set to host the first-ever Global Black Pride convening in the United States.
Alright folks, that’s all for now, but remember – the best way to enjoy these events is with respect, acceptance, and an open mind – that’s the true spirit of Georgia! Let’s get out there and make these amazing events a blast.
