Big Names in Atlanta’s Restaurant Scene Say Goodbye

Big Names in Atlanta’s Restaurant Scene Say Goodbye

Chill folks, we’ve got some news! Some big surprises hit the Atlanta restaurant scene this month. A few of our fave places closed their doors unexpectedly and it definitely stings. Here’s a rundown.

Rwby Closes Permanently

Let’s start with Rwby in Midtown, you remember that popular joint, right? It shut its doors last month, leaving a bunch of us kind of stranded with our dinner plans. But word on the street is, La Santa Tacos & Bar has scooped up the space and plan to start serving up their Mexican menu later this year. You might remember that Rwby replaced The Lawrence in a blink and ended up on Eater Atlanta’s heatmap when it first opened. Well, that’s all history now.

Down Shutters Go for L.O.A. Social Club

Next up is L.O.A. Social Club. Remember that fancy rooftop poolside hangout in West Midtown’s The Interlock? Yeah, that’s history now too. They seemed a bit confused about their vibe from start – opening with complex directions for elevator use and then switched gears to become a private club in January. Slater Hospitality, known for developing Skylawn Park, RFD Social and other hotspots, were the brains behind L.O.A. (which stands for “Leave of Absence”). But, fret not, the developers still believe in the potential of the location and are eyeing new plans for the spot. Stay tuned!

Surprise Shutdown at Eventide Brewing

The bad news continues. After a solid decade, Eventide Brewing in Grant Park also called it quits without any heads up this week. The locals have been pouring their hearts out on social media, reminiscing about the good times at the brewery. Georgia beer laws that prevent breweries from selling directly to restaurants and stores have been a bone of contention for a while now, eating into local brewers’ profits, and it seems these laws may have hit Eventide Brewing hard. As of now, it’s unclear if they will keep brewing and selling beer.

Toranj Kitchen: Never Got to Open

To cap it off, there’s Toranj Middle East Kitchen. It was all set to take over Atmosphere French Bistro in Piedmont Heights. Now, before it even had a chance to serve a single meal, it has a ‘For Sale’ sign out front. The owners had pumped money and time into major renovations before this decision. Google even marked the restaurant as “temporarily closed.” Well, that’s certainly underwhelming.

To sum up, this has been a rollercoaster of a month for the Atlanta restaurant scene. A number of popular places have gone off our go-to list, but we remain excited to see what’s cooking for the city’s food lovers in the future. Here’s to always finding new favs!
