Hey there, Atlanta! We’ve got some exciting news as Atlanta Pride, one of the largest and most vibrant celebrations of diversity and equality in the United States, is just around the corner! Set to take place on October 12 and 13, this year’s event promises to be a fantastic blend of fun, unity, and celebration.
The Atlanta Pride Festival is all about embracing and showcasing diversity. Since its inception in 1971, it has blossomed into a massive festival that attracts over 300,000 attendees from near and far. It’s a gathering that’s not just a local affair but a national celebration coinciding with National Coming Out Day. This vibrant festival signifies empowerment and the quest for equality, recognizing the historical Stonewall Uprisings every June.
Let’s get into the nitty-gritty. The festival boasts a variety of events and activities that are free to attend, though donations are always welcome to support the year-round mission of Atlanta Pride. Mark your calendars for the Atlanta Pride Parade, stepping off at noon on Sunday, October 13. The parade will kick off at the Civic Center MARTA Station, make its way down Peachtree Street, turn onto 10th Street, and wrap up at Piedmont Park.
Getting to Piedmont Park shouldn’t be a headache. Attendees are strongly encouraged to use public transport or rideshare options. Conveniently, both the Arts Center and Midtown MARTA rail stations are about 1.2 miles from the park, and the parade starts close to the Atlanta Civic Center MARTA Station.
For those who prefer cycling, a free bike valet is available near the Atlanta BeltLine. However, note that bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and roller blades are not allowed on festival grounds.
It’s going to be a beautiful weekend, perfect for outdoor activities (hooray for good weather!). Feel free to bring along food and drinks, but remember supporting Pride vendors helps keep the festival free. Bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas; tents are allowed but must not be staked into the ground.
If you’re bringing your furry friends, note that while pets are welcomed along the parade route, they are not permitted in Piedmont Park during Atlanta Pride, with the exception of service animals. Glass bottles and weapons are prohibited.
Catch a variety of performances by artists like Ava Max, Monet X Change, Cakes Da Killa, Mila Jam, and many others across multiple stages. For complete event schedules and additional information, be sure to check the official Atlanta Pride channels.
Feeling inspired to give back to the community? Atlanta Pride welcomes volunteers not only for the festival itself but for year-round events too. There’s always a way to get involved and contribute to the spirit of Pride.
This year’s Atlanta Pride is shaping up to be a memorable time for everyone involved. Whether you’re a local or traveling from afar, gear up for a weekend of inclusion, joy, and unwavering spirit. Be sure to bring your enthusiasm and come ready to celebrate!
