ATLANTA — Four schools in the Atlanta Public Schools system are facing a water shortage this Friday morning, thanks to a water main break in South Atlanta. The unfortunate incident, reported by Atlanta Watershed, occurred at the intersection of Moury Avenue & Jonesboro Road.
The four affected schools will still hold classes as planned. According to an official statement from APS, “Our Facilities department will deliver bottled water for drinking, a portable trailer to provide water for restrooms, and hand sanitizer for hand washing to those schools. Our school day will continue as scheduled, as we do not expect any disruptions to instruction.” It’s reassuring to know that learning will continue smoothly despite the hurdle.
Earlier today, the Atlanta Watershed gave more detailed information about the cause of the break. The organization stated, “Crews are responding to a water main break due to a breach in the line by a private contractor at the intersection of Moury Avenue & Jonesboro Road. Crews are onsite and working aggressively to make repairs to the 24-inch water main affecting the service area.”
The incident has not only impacted the schools but also neighboring residents and businesses. People in the affected areas may face temporary disruptions of water service and experience low water pressure until the repairs are successfully completed.
As of this moment, crews are still hard at work to resolve the issue. At 10:52 a.m., Atlanta Watershed posted images showcasing the ongoing repairs. While water service might remain temporarily unavailable in the affected areas, continuous efforts are being made to restore it as soon as possible.
The teams involved are working expeditiously to mitigate any further inconvenience. Residents and businesses are advised to stay patient, and additional updates will be provided as soon as they become available. In the meantime, it’s comforting to note the proactive measures undertaken by APS to ensure that education for the young minds continues uninterrupted.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates. It’s essential to be prepared for occasional disruptions in daily routines due to such unexpected events. The ongoing teamwork between the affected schools and Atlanta Watershed highlights the community’s resilience. With bottled water, portable trailers for restroom needs, and hand sanitizers already dispatched, our community is ready to tackle this head-on and ensure minimal discomfort for everyone involved.
Stay tuned, be patient, and let’s look forward to a swift resolution.
