ATLANTA — Nearly three years have passed since the tragic murder of Tyshon ‘Ty’ Ross, a 28-year-old security guard who was shot outside the Encore Hookah Bar and Bistro on Luckie Street. With the recent developments in court, justice is finally taking steps forward in this heartbreaking case.
It all started back in February 2022 when Ty was involved in an altercation with another man at the popular nightlife spot. As the night unfolded, a heated argument escalated, leading to a dangerous situation outside the bar. According to police reports, the confrontation led to gunfire, and unfortunately, Ty was struck. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Tyshon was not just a dedicated security guard; he was also engaged to be married to Aaliyah Strong. The couple was looking forward to building a life together, but those dreams were tragically cut short. The path to justice for Ty’s family has been rocky, with numerous delays pushing the trial date further and further away. Originally set to start in February 2023, the trial was postponed multiple times. Aaliyah expressed her hopes during a recent conversation with reporters, stating, “If we can make it through this trial and get the verdict that we hope for, that will be a good holiday wish for us.”
On Monday, just as the jury selection was about to kick off, a significant update emerged. The accused, 21-year-old Damon Wilson, opted for a negotiated plea deal. This wasn’t something people were expecting at the last minute, but it indeed brought a sense of relief among Ty’s family and friends.
So, what does this plea deal entail? Wilson pleaded guilty to a series of charges that stemmed from the tragic events that night. As a result of the agreement made by both the defense and the state, he received a 25-year prison sentence. Support for this plea deal also came from Ty’s family, who, while mourning their loss, expressed their gratitude for the resolution of the case. During the emotional plea hearing, Ty’s mother took a moment to thank the court for bringing the case to a close.
This case has been a heavy burden for Ty’s loved ones, and the ending of the trial marks a small victory in their long fight for justice. Aaliyah Strong has stood by Ty’s side throughout this ordeal, reminding everyone of the bright light he brought into their lives. While the pain of losing Ty may never completely fade, these legal proceedings provide a sense of closure, allowing his memory to be honored in a way that feels just.
As Tyshon’s family grapples with their grief, they continue to remember the remarkable man he was. With the trial finally over and the sentence handed down, they can now focus on cherishing their memories of him and seeking healing from this traumatic experience.
Though this chapter has come to a close, Ty’s story will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we continue to follow cases like this, it serves as a reminder of the importance of community, justice, and the fight to ensure that no one’s life is taken without consequence.
