Violence Strikes in Atlanta: Two Men Dead After Rooming House Shooting

ATLANTA — A tragic incident has shaken the northwest Atlanta community after a shooting at a rooming house left two men dead. The city is reeling as police continue to investigate what led to this heartbreaking event.

The Victims

One of the victims has been identified as Jerome Johnson, a 66-year-old father well-known to those who loved him. His daughter, Takela Glover, is struggling to process the loss, expressing disbelief that her father is really gone. In an emotional interview, she shared, “Can’t really say that he’s gone. I really don’t believe it. I’m waiting on a phone call because I can’t believe it.”

Glover opened up about the close bond she shared with her father, who had been living in a multi-tenant house on Bolton Road. Both Glover and Johnson had been living their lives in a community filled with familiar faces until that fateful day.

The Incident

According to reports, the shooting occurred on a Saturday morning when someone entered the rooming house and opened fire, striking both Johnson and another man. “My dad was in the dining room, and the other man was at the door. My father was shot multiple times,” Glover recounted, clearly still in shock.

The unnamed second victim was also caught in the crossfire, and the whole situation has left the community and the victims’ families searching for answers. Tragically, the suspect in this horrific crime returned to the scene shortly after the incident and was apprehended. Police have identified him as Leatories Carter, a 52-year-old man who reportedly knew both victims. Glover expressed her heartbreak, stating, “I just want to ask him, Why? Why would you do it.”

A Grieving Community

At this point, the police have not released a motive for the double shooting. However, Glover has spoken to witnesses who claim that Carter was under the influence of drugs during the incident, though this has yet to be confirmed by law enforcement.

Glover describes her father as a “good person” who was always there to lend a hand to those in need. “He didn’t bother anybody. He would help you whenever you needed help. He was understanding, and that’s why it’s hard for me to deal with,” she stated, summing up the profound loss felt by everyone who knew Jerome Johnson.

A Way to Help

In the aftermath of this tragic event, many in the community have rallied around Glover and her family to offer support. A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover funeral expenses for Johnson. Those who wish to contribute can find the link to donate and show their love for the family during this difficult time.

Looking Forward

As Atlanta grapples with the aftermath of this violence, the community continues to come together. It’s a sobering reminder of how unpredictable life can be and how much we need to cherish those we love. We can only hope that as details emerge, justice will be served, and the community can begin to heal from this immense loss.
